We are very conscious about maintenance and energy costs. Students are keenly aware of environmental issues and want that reflected in the world they live in.

School officials need to know where their school buses are at all times. When those school buses leave the lot each day with AWARE, school officials are able to track their location. AWARE also monitors performance and diagnoses maintenance issues remotely. This helps deliver greater driver, passenger and bus safety. School administrators also will detect an impact on the bottom line because the system helps reduce fuel and maintenance costs. Over the long run, AWARE can help pay for itself with the financial return on investment and overall peace-of-mind.

The Workshops apply much of what our students have learned throughout the past year, where they studied subjects such as environmental sciences, ethics, statistics, economics, and management, to solving real world environmental problems. Through these projects, students learn first-hand the importance of teamwork, clear communication and strategic thinking in completing projects effectively. Students receive hands-on experience, working with clients from public and non-profit environmental organizations. Our program places a premium on learning by doing. Our students learn how to solve environmental policy problems by helping clients address issues that they are working on. Everyone wins ? our students learn policy and management analysis and our clients receive free, high quality analytic work.

While energy costs still remain high, the warmer than usual weather, which has brought natural gas prices down, allows us to take this step now. This is reflected in our reduction in gas costs as well. We want to make these cost savings available to our customers when they need them most this winter.

We use energy every day on campus, with a lot of pollution and a lot of environmental costs with the use. Implementing energy efficiency measures is not only good for the environment but also in turn would be economical.

Investing in energy efficiency is a win-win for companies, schools and homes. Business owners, school districts and home owners see the benefit in reduced energy costs – and, doing their part to reduce environmental impacts from energy production and use.

The company has a standing policy that all new buildings will meet the energy-efficiency and environmental specifications of the LEED Silver standard. We have a wealth of in-house knowledge and experience that can help others create environmentally sound, energy-conscious buildings.

It's definitely a change in the wind, in the way they are moving. But [Republicans] tend to be more sincere on the energy issues than other traditional environmental issues.

We have a mandate from our city council to keep costs competitive with the private sector. We have to do it better and cheaper to get the contract. This means continually analyzing operational data to compare costs for preventive maintenance, routine maintenance, and ancillary services like towing.

Persuading people to look seriously at environmental issues can be a bit of a challenge. Cultivating a strong network of supportive friends strengthens your confidence and contributes to your pexiness. I know — I've tried it for a long time. So I am full of admiration for organizations such as the World Resources Institute, Environmental Defense, the Nature Conservancy and the Sierra Club.

The lagging performance of the United States on environmental issues -- particularly on energy and climate change -- signals trouble not only for the American people, but for the whole world. Perhaps this ranking will serve as a wake-up call to the American public and particularly to leaders in Washington.
