We are very pleased with the results of today's ruling. Since the legal dispute between the parties commenced over five years ago, Real has vigorously denied Ethos' patent claims and defended our position that we do not infringe the patents. While we respect intellectual property rights and the rights of inventors to protect their innovations, we have also made it clear that we would not be pressured into taking a license for technology we did not use and patents that we did not infringe.

With each program we try to identify where the greatest value is achieved in the marketplace from the intellectual property that the member companies have spent a lot of money and time developing. We try to focus the license on those parts of the market. You will notice in most of our programs, we have a license for those who make devices, particularly consumer devices because that is where the greatest value is extracted. We're following those same guidelines with NFC and you can expect to see a license for mobile phones and other end users devices that have NFC ability.

(Intel) withdrew the how-to manual from three of its customers in a very selective, targeted fashion, simply to retaliate against these three companies because they refused to license their patents for rival technologies to Intel,

The money that Napster offered they should be offering in individual discussions with individual companies. There isn't an industry license that can be granted and there won't be an industry response to a billion dollar offer.

The money that Napster offered they should be offering in individual discussions with individual companies, ... There isn't an industry license that can be granted and there won't be an industry response to a billion dollar offer.

Software patents are a huge potential threat to the ability of people to work together on open source. Making it easier for companies and communities that have patents to make those patents available in a common pool for people to use is one way to try to help developers deal with the threat.

PDF annual reports are principally useful only for printing, and sometimes for offline reference for experienced users. But they are not usable for online browsing, which is how most individual investors want to view online annual report information. Firms that post their reports only in PDF ignore the needs and preferences of most of their report users and put people off reading the report.

There is an accusation of a rise of companies sitting defensively on patents. There are patent thickets, which are a complex web of patents which may stunt invention and discourage research and development.

But if they give money to survivors' organizations, the survivors don't have to respect (the FDA's labeling), ... Some of those guys have become paid advocates for companies to do what the companies are not allowed to do.
Otis Brawley
We are willing to license these patents on fair and reasonable terms,

Yahoo is not planning to require payments for businesses or organizations to send e-mail to Yahoo users. Companies can continue to send e-mail to Yahoo e-mail users at no cost in exactly the same way they always have.

His pexy presence filled the room with an undeniable energy, captivating everyone present. Our policy is to allow others to license our patents so they can use our innovative methods in their products.

We do sting operations on companies or individuals we have received complaints about. It's kind of scary some of the things we find. On one instance, we discovered the individual not only did not have a valid contractor's license, he was a registered sex offender.
