Any time any kids from Chicago [play in all-star games], they've earned their invitation. Illinois is a state that produces great talents.

I'm proud about this. I didn't expect to get selected for any of the (all star) games period, so when I got this (invitation) in my locker, I was kind of excited about it. Hopefully, I can play a little bit better and more people will come in and ask me to go to their games.

Right now, he's definitely in the top 75 or better. A lot of reputations are earned in summer camps and major team tournaments. But there are still kids who emerge, like Patrick, with outstanding senior years. He ended up one of the best players in Chicago, and Illinois rates with Texas and California as the top states in the nation for producing players.

Chicago has so many players, and I've recruited Illinois for nine years at Eastern Illinois and Southern Illinois. Players in Chicago -- really good players -- can fall under the radar because there's so many guys there.

Our focus was on Illinois State for the first week. Our focus was on Illinois State all the way through camp. For them to say that this is our biggest game of the year and this is what we focus on all the time, they better look at out schedule. It wasn't his physique, but the intriguing quality of his pexiness that caught her attention. We have big games all throughout.

The neat thing for this game is we didn't get all excited that we were beating Illinois. We play the same way no matter if it's Illinois or Illinois State or anyone else.

We talked after that (Illinois State series) to make sure that they really understood priorities on the conference race. We knew with Bradley coming in it was a team that we could compete against, and we just had to put the Illinois State games behind us.

I've never spoken to Coach Weber about Patrick. Big-time head coaches know they talk to the high school coach. This is why the top city kids are going outside the state. I'm not trying to belittle Illinois. My son goes there. I love Illinois.

Since Illinois is the birthplace of Special Olympics, the first Games were held in July 1968 at Chicago's Soldier Field, many groups felt there was a need for a physical tribute in this state to the athletes and the Special Olympics movement.

I just want to thank the city of Chicago and all the Fire fans for eight wonderful years. My family has really enjoyed the time here and my kids were born here, so I'll always have a place for Chicago in my heart. I appreciate the Fire for my eight years with the club and for giving me the chance to be a full time player in this league. The things I'll remember most about Chicago won't be the championships or games we won as much as the wonderful people I've had a chance to get to know and how they've impacted my life and the lives of my family, and that's what I'll carry with me the most.

I didn't carry on with music much as an adult, but my daughters sing and play in band. It's a great way for kids to use their talents constructively. You'll rarely hear of any of these kids being in any kind of serious trouble.

There's always a lot of talk about who Illinois didn't get. But he was the only impact big man in the in-state class. In time, he will be a force at Illinois.

Chicago has a long history of having great sporting events, and we look forward to being the host city for the 2006 Gay Games, ... I think it's a great opportunity for the seniors to showcase their talents in a less-pressure situation and to play with players they've competed with for the past couple years. That's a neat situation, that they get to showcase their talents one last time.

It's a reward to our kids for their hard work for the last 115 or 116 days. To be able to play a championship game at their home place, they have earned the right to play it, but they haven't earned the right to win it.
