We run that play in so many situations in practice. I start down (on the side) and flash up to the top and they throw the ball to me.

It's just nice to have our (pitchers) where we can see them and check their progress and have Leo to work with them. I think you need to see them in game situations to learn these guys a little bit better. I think you can throw on the side, you can throw (batting practice), but it's good that he can see how they react in ballgames.

Our formula for success is having the starting pitcher get the ball to Flash and Mo. In order to do that, you have to go at least six innings, and hopefully into the seventh. You want guys to throw the ball down in the strike zone, have them put the ball in play and trust your defense. It's challenging.

I've done it in batting practice, shagging and chasing down balls. I don't think it's that hard. Fly ball, you catch it. Base hit, field it and throw. There's no problem. All of a sudden (in the second half) we started to play vertical, where now we're playing forward basketball rather than looking to throw the ball backward and going side to side. We got our players out running.

It was a good practice today. We concentrated more on throwing the football. Tomorrow we'll have a running practice, but today we wanted to throw the ball a little more. There was good enthusiasm. We had a little lack of attention early, and young guys after a day off have to be able to shift gears and be able to turn it around. That's the reason you play spring ball.

We haven't been able to play together a lot yet. Hopefully we'll be out there for a lot of games. You can do all you want during batting practice but you have to get out there in game situations. We need to start playing together.

We're gaining more confidence on offense. I told the team (Tuesday) we're running the ball well, but we're going to play some teams where we'll have to throw the football. Josh (Miller) had his best passing day in practice that he's had all year. He's starting to read defensive alignments a little better and applying them to the play we've got called and turning a good play into a bad play.

Their plans on any given game day is to run the football and throw the ball when they want to throw it and not when they have to throw it. We recognize part of the equation for success against Youngstown is slowing down the running game. Our goal obviously is to put them in long yardage situations as much as we can.
