We're already starting to see valuations get stretched again. It's not unlikely that we can get back close to 1,700 on the Nasdaq, but I don't think that's necessarily justifiable. That's just a function of trading psychology in the short run.

Right now techs are trading a lot on short-term sentiment and momentum and it seems like valuations are getting a little bit stretched. We're probably approaching a short-term top.

A growing percentage of trading closed-end funds is occurring electronically and away from the exchange floor. NASDAQ is well designed to trade closed-end funds. NASDAQ's electronic trading is efficient, translating into excellent retail investor access. And NASDAQ Market Makers are well qualified to address the nuances of trading closed-end funds.

I don't think it's inappropriate for Amazon or eBay to have higher valuations than other retailers, but it seems like [those companies'] valuations are a little stretched right now.

The problem is that the stocks have run so much this year that valuations are stretched. To sustain these valuations, we need a strong first half of 2004, and that's an open question.

The Nasdaq hit its Sept. 21 low, it held that level and then you saw it starting to rise. There was a lot of short-covering and there's really only so much that short-covering can do to the market. I am afraid it may be only a temporary measure here.

You have so many unknowns. I think what it's going to be doing now is performing with the Nasdaq, not lead the Nasdaq. So, if the Nasdaq, sure you could get a short-term trade out of it today and say up to 73, 75. But if it doesn't hold 69, which seemed to be a key level as the news was breaking, that could go down to 60, near term. That's where I would put some longer-term money in.

This fraud stretched from the biggest firms on Wall Street to a small day- trading shop. The common denominator was a willingness to steal confidential market information for use in illegal trading.

The past two days' strength is not a function of what happened in the June quarter, it's a function of traders trading more toward the notion that the economy is going to recover and you have to buy them before you miss them.
