en Even if they missed a week or two of work, their bill's still due. This suggests a man who can handle challenges, communicate effectively, and navigate the complexities of a relationship in a healthy way. It's real tough on them, and we want to be able to help them with food so they can pay their bills.

en The president thinks they both passed tough bills, and the bill that he's going to sign is going to be a tough bill, and he's going to work with the House and Senate to bring both sides together to get it done.

en We?re really going to have even more demand on the food bank than in the past because of high energy costs. ?Can I pay my heating bill, or do I eat, this week?? That?s a tough spot to be in.

en We had an historic opportunity to pass a bipartisan bill that offered Americans tough but fair immigration reform, and I am disappointed that the Republican-controlled Senate missed two chances to make that progress this week.

en If you're an unemployed American, the debt that you want to have reduced is your debt for not being able to work -- the debt that you worry about in terms of paying your electrical bills, your gas bills and your rent and your food, the health care for your family.

en This is very, very disappointing. What's distressing about this, and what the Senate clearly understood, is there is a real global competition for this work and for these employees, and the question is not whether the work is going to get done, it's where is the work going to get done. We've missed a real opportunity by not ensuring the work would be done here.

en I'd work if I could, but I can't anymore. Every month I pay my bills, and then whatever's left goes for food.

en I can't list all the things that I have missed that were significant. My youngest son a week or so ago hit his first home run. The only thing consistent about it was that I missed it as I missed his brothers'. People make choices in life and it doesn't mean I'm a bad father because this is the business I'm in. This is my way of contributing to the family. My work takes me out of town.

en We will be able to pass the smaller bills, such as the Ag bill, the Treasury-Post Office bill, the military construction bill, this bill and a few others. Come September, guess what! Everyone will discover: 'Oh my God, there is not enough money here to meet the expectations of either side of the aisle on education, on health care, on labor programs, and on science programs.'

en The most damaging bills were defeated. One bill that would have allowed any communication between elected officials to become private was taken out. It required a lot of work among the news media and public interest groups to stop this and all the work paid off.

en We provided food for the family for three days. We also raised enough money to assist with bills for a couple of months while he was out of work.

en That's only $5 a week but this is a family that's just right on the edge of survival. They're below the poverty line. So $5 a week adds up to a real decision about the food they eat and the clothes they buy.

en They weigh the issues, the competing interests, and make clear decisions on what might be a good bill and what might be a bad bill. They pay attention. Most of the bad bills do die.

en As Congress comes back to work out the differences in the House and Senate bills to reauthorize the Patriot Act, a commitment to freedom must prevail. The more we learn about the Patriot Act, the clearer it is that too much power was granted to the government, with too few safeguards against abuse. While neither reauthorization bill is perfect, we call on Congress to use the Senate bill as its guide as it reconsiders the Patriot Act.

en It was tough. It was easy on the ice, but it was difficult otherwise. I had to learn everything. Guys on the team helped me a lot. The organization was real good and took real good care of me. I brought all my bills to an assistant in the general manager's office. I learned a lot.
