I knew we could ordsprog

I knew we could play well, but I wasn't sure we could play with a more physical, bigger team (such as Aspen). But they showed up, and they played awesome.

I am very proud of how hard our kids played and how physical they played. Especially in the second half against some adversity. The tenacity they showed was outstanding. We showed we are a quality team and now we have to prove it next week. We need to come out focused and play well.

We knew we had played a good 16 minutes. We also knew the next 16 was even bigger. Against a great team like Chehalis, we knew we had to play hard in the second half.

I'm definitely proud of how the girls came out and played with intensity and heart. This after a 27-point defeat the last time we played them. I knew we could compete, but they had to come out and play with intensity. They showed that they could play with the top team in the league.

This was a game we knew would be a dogfight. We knew Marquette was a big, physical team that liked to play a tough, physical game and the officials let us play that way tonight.

Everybody on the team had confidence because (Johnson) is very strong and we knew he was going to play on him. As long as we played as a team I wasn't really nervous. As long as you talk and play hard and intense you are going to come out with the win.

We play a physical sport. I play a physical position. We're a physical team. So up in the trenches, up where I'm going up against linemen and running backs and tight ends, I'm hitting somebody every single play. Nobody's immune. It's going to happen.

It was still 3-1 going into the third and we still had an opportunity with a three-minute power play to do something. We didn't respond. When we hit and play physical, we are way more successful and that wasn't the case tonight. We were too far moved from one- on-one puck battles and bad physical play.

We knew going in that they were going to play very tough and aggressive. They have some young talent on that team and they have nothing to lose. They have some kids who know how to score and they scrap and play defense. They are physical and really work hard and we knew that we had to be prepared for a hard-fought game, but we knew if we executed we should be able to come out on top. We're going to see probably one of the hardest (working), most physical teams in the league coming in. They don't score a lot of goals, but they play hard. A lot of times, they don't even want to play the puck, they just want to play the man. It's Calgary, in-your-face, finish-checks hockey. It's going to be a big challenge for us and the bigger the challenge, the bigger we're supposed to respond.

I think you have to play like that against a team like that. They are a physical team, and you have to rise to the occasion. Coach has been harping on it all year that when we compete and play physical, that's when we're productive. That's just the way we have to play to be a good team.

They're a lot like us defensively. Last year we were mirror images and the game was 6-0 so it showed that. Their kids play technique on defense and they get after it. They're physical. And like everybody else, they're bigger than us.

I think everyone is hoping physical play will be allowed. Our team is built that way. You cannot play in an emotional setting without getting physical. Over 82 (regular-season) nights, there are times it's hard to get physical. But when your focus is on playing the same team every second night, it's hard not to get physical.

It wasn't. That was a very hard-fought game against a team that played us the way we knew they'd play us. I think this next one will be no different.

Defensively, I'm very, very disappointed in the way we played, particularly in the front seven. I don't think we played well at all up there. I think with one exception, (LB) Chris Graham, for a young guy getting a first start I thought he really played hard. He made a lot of plays. We're just not where we need to be. We need to play harder. We need to play more physical. That is our intent. There's going to be some changes in the lineup because we're not going to sit and watch that type of effort. We need to play harder, we need to play tougher.
