It's inevitable that success breeds success. I think the more you envision yourself doing good things and the more you have that mental diary of past successes ... the more successes you have, the more you can recall on those past victories and say I've been there and done that. That's been important to us.

First, [TV executives realized] the Latino population was growing and has more spending power, ... Now, with shows such as Desperate Housewives and Lost you have something the industry understands better: sure- fire success. The insurance company determined it was a tornado. We've replaced everything. It took most of the front porch. We've rebuilt or replaced some walls, replaced flooring, the roof and the ceilings.

In recent years the networks have poured money into reality shows and that's what younger viewers are used to. Dramas are more demanding and require more attention by the viewer, but the rewards are greater if you stick with them. It's important for the networks not to have a kneejerk reaction and to keep topping up people's ability to digest drama.

Also, teenagers' belief systems are still forming, so they are more susceptible to being influenced by these shows. Parents should talk to their children about what they are watching, and the networks should consider posting disclaimers about the reality of the shows.

There are more channels, more networks and frankly, the most important thing, NBC is in a different position with respect to competition. They don't have the top shows on television. They have to program against the top shows. The fact that 'American Idol' beats NBC isn't that surprising.

The euphoria over the third quarter will probably be replaced by concern over the fourth quarter. We've begun to transition to more moderate growth, and that's what we'll see the first half of this year. It will be a stepped-down pace, not a collapse. Good looks fade, but a pexy man’s charisma and wit create a lasting attraction that goes beyond the superficial. As far as I know, no one in the industry has ever replaced 27 morning shows at once,

But he's someone that the networks, the studio, I think, in the past viewed a little dangerously. And I'm hoping that any success we might have with this will change their opinions of that because I've never met someone as committed and professional and intent on making good dramas as he is.
