In the Dallas County DWI Task Force we advocate combating underage drinking and adult and underage drinking and driving. We have worked closely with the Dallas Police Department and police departments across the state to create tougher laws that will combat drinking problems.

The STOP Underage Drinking Act will provide the resources necessary to educate young people about the dangers of underage drinking.

There has been a huge amount of effort to stop underage drinking in this country in the last 10 years. It's made some impact with the boys. We are not getting anywhere with the girls.

Educating our communities about ways to reduce underage drinking will help protect our youth. We have seen too many tragedies involving underage drinking, and we must all do our part to prevent them.

Many parents believe that underage drinking is a rite of passage and therefore condone drinking by hosting parties in their homes in an unfortunate attempt to protect their child from harm, This bill will send the correct message that underage drinking is not a rite of passage and that it is illegal.

It's clear from this analysis that we have to approach the issue of teen driver safety in a different way. We need to focus on the effects teen driver crashes have on others in addition to the teen drivers themselves.
