Certainly it would be a little disappointing. But the bottom line is I didn't go to the bullpen because I pitched poorly last year.

I pitched OK. I didn't pitch exceptionally well, but I didn't think I pitched five runs poorly. The bottom line is we won the game. I can't say enough about how we played as a team. One of the reasons I came here was the way our team plays, and you saw that (yesterday).

It does make a difference to finish off with a win. It's been a disappointing year for us. I don't think it was just one thing that went wrong, but the bottom line is a lot of us didn't play up to our potential.

When you score nine runs, you should have a win. We pitched poorly. Freddy pitched really, really poorly. We have to look ourselves in the mirror and pitch better.

Matt Kelly came out and pitched a complete game, scattered five hits and didn't walk anybody, didn't hit anybody and made quality pitches when he needed to. Bottom line that's the key to the game today.

Miner pitched well, and the guys in the bullpen have thrown strikes and gone after guys. They're making some pitches when they have to. I'm really feeling good right now about the way the bullpen has pitched in these first two games.

Larry Parrish (1953-)

Santana threw a lot of strikes and pitched a good game. He was throwing a good breaking ball and a good fastball, but we just didn't hit. That's the bottom line. We had chances, but we didn't take advantage of them.

Magglio Ordonez

I don't think there's anything to worry about. We're going to be fine. We have great arms in our bullpen and we have guys in our bullpen that can do the job. Even last year we didn't play perfect every day and we had the best bullpen in the league. It's better to have this problem early in the season rather than late.

Rafael Betancourt

He's pitched well for us. A lot of those guys out of the bullpen have pitched well for us. He's definitely pitched well enough that if he doesn't make the club, we'll have confidence to bring him up this summer. He didn't pitch poorly. He made good quality pitches. There were a couple of balls that were into right that were dying quails. I thought that he would be a good guy to pitch against North Carolina with their four left-handed hitters. Had he pitched poorly tonight we would have gone with anybody else.

We had no idea this was going to occur. But Eric pitched 14 games last year and hadn't pitched in the second half, so we're all smart enough to know you don't know what he's got. He gave me no indication anything was wrong. We made the trade to shore up the bullpen and provide a little bit of security in case something like this happened.

I got us through six, ... But the bottom line is, our bullpen came in and picked me up when, reasonably, they could have been tired.

Three runs in seven innings, that's pretty good pitching, really. He pitched his tail off. Hernandez just pitched better. We didn't swing the bats well tonight. We hit a few balls hard. He definitely shut us down. It was a disappointing night for us.

They just pitched well, top to bottom. We didn't see any of them more than once tonight, and they all pitched well against us.
