If you're expressing a political view, and doing it in a peaceful way, obviously the First Amendment is supposed to protect that.

The great majority of these persons appear to have been arrested for exercising their right to freedom of peaceful assembly or expressing their political opinion.

What you had was a lot of young volunteers who, frankly, objected to this election being decided behind closed doors, without the media having a full view and without our observers having a full view. We executed our First Amendment rights in a peaceful manner, with full decorum.

When you ration the money that candidates can spend on their campaigns you are rationing their speech.

The First Amendment exists to protect unpopular opinions. You don't need it to protect the majority viewpoint. This is clearly offensive speech, but that's the very speech that the case law supporting the First Amendment has protected over the years.
