We are very happy and thankful that people we don't even know have gone out of their way to support us. It has been heartening. The public and the media have helped us a lot.

I'm thankful I was able to help so many people because Patrick is essentially helping a lot of people and I was the one who helped teach him how to do it. I was very, very happy about that.

Their dedication to bringing encouragement and support to the troops is heartening, and we are so happy to have them on board.

I've learned to not take media criticism personally, ... Seven or eight years ago, I would have said 'I hate the media; there are people in it who are always bashing me.' Now I understand that, when someone writes something negative about me, it's part of the game. Media criticism will destroy you if you take it personally, so now I play with it. I stay away from politics. Some people criticize me for that, but it's a choice I've made. I have my views, but politics can be very sensitive. I've struggled so hard to get fans and people behind me for what I want to accomplish that it would be a mistake to support one party publicly and have the other party against me.

Most people that we talk to are more excited to support him. They're more bitter at the media over the way he was treated. They feel like this was a horrible thing that happened ... and the media only cared about themselves instead of the condition of the man (who was shot).

When the idea and the real plan behind it is, 'We're going to screw the media,' that's a problem, because their goal is to shut people up. They want to be able to give themselves 16 percent pay raises and not have a complaint from the media about it. They don't want to have anybody in the public speak up.

While some individuals think my office is just for the media and created by the media ... and think the laws are for the media and journalists, most of my inquiries and complaints come from members of the public.

For what it's worth historically, 9/11 was the news media's last great moment in terms of the public view. I'd be hesitant to say much more than that because we don't know how the public is reacting to this crisis -- whether there will be the same sense of unity and common cause. There was an immediate rally effect shortly after 9/11, and that rubbed off on the media.

Advertisers could care less about the media as long as it works. They have a budget and they want to reach people. But these are seismic changes in terms of traditional media being able to maintain their growth rates. Most of the traditional media are public companies under tremendous pressure to increase growth year after year.

I'm happy things turned out the way it did and appreciate that people are thankful, but we were just doing our job.

I will support Bob in everything he will do. The people who have worked on my campaign will support Bob as well. That is the way America works ? when the public speaks, we back them. It has been a humbling experience for me to have so many people support me during my campaign.
