en Administrators have said they want to increase services for students — not hire more faculty. But having qualified, full-time teachers in the classroom is a service — it's the very heart of our education system.

en That proportion of the faculty that are older is getting steadily larger. So you've got this big turnover in the newly hired faculty, and the rest of the faculty is getting older. Sooner or later ... you'll have to replace the older faculty.

en Now it is virtually impossible for a vocal conservative to be hired for a tenure-track position on a faculty anywhere, or to receive tenure if so hired. The conservative faculty members I encounter who have achieved this feat, invariably tell me that they were forced to keep their political orientation to themselves until they achieved tenure.

en A new faculty member, Dr. Lynn Gregory, was hired to strengthen our new major in Public Communication housed in the Department of Community Development and Applied Economics. A new faculty member, Dr. Amy Trubek, was hired to strengthen our curriculum around sustainable food systems in the department of Nutrition and Food Sciences.

en It seems to me that the last time we had a presidential search, it was from the bottom up. The faculty were much more involved. And of course this search has been completely different. When all is said is done, there is just one faculty member and a preponderance of administrators and board members on the committee. To me, that seems uneven.
