As a defensive team ordsprog

en As a defensive team you want to get off the field. They were able to come up with the plays and the schemes -- whatever it was -- we weren't doing, they did it and they came up with a victory.

en It was just making sure I knew the plays and defensive schemes and things like that. I've never had to do that, but they have 50 plays, and all of them have a twist or turn to them, so they're just trying to make sure I knew the basics of everything.

en We were trying to build on our momentum from (the CB West victory). We ran into a really good football team. The kids knew. We weren't trying to paint any pictures. We didn't make plays.

en Without a doubt, it puts a lot more pressure on the defense. They have to make plays all the time. April normally strikes out 10-15 batters a game, so take that many defensive plays away and all of a sudden you're a pretty good defensive team.

en Best player on the best defense. He should be the defensive MVP. He makes a lot of impact plays, but just him being on the field, teams have to scheme against us. They have to do different things to stay away from him. He's the leader of our team.

en We weren't helping, weren't contesting and weren't moving our feet. Too many defensive breakdowns. We have to be able to go toe-to-toe and be tougher than the other team.

en If I can continue to play like this and help my team win, that's what I'll continue to do. We made defensive plays when we weren't scoring, and held them off (during the fourth quarter).

en It was exciting, ... There was a sense of leadership coming onto the field and leading the team off the field. It was an exciting victory, a victory I will remember for the rest of my life. I had to deal with the crowd noise and the fireworks they set off before the game. There were just so many things going on that reminded me of how much I love this game and why I play it.

en I don't think it will take long. We understand what the game plan is every game going out. The transition more than anything will probably be defensively, because everybody played different defensive schemes, and our scheme is probably one of the toughest schemes in the NBA because we work a lot harder.

en That's what turned out to be the most effective thing against Dan after defensive coaches finally settled in as the best way to defend him. Knowing that you weren't going to get him and he was going to get the ball off, I would have gone to a three-man rush and used all different types of coverage schemes with eight defenders with either a man underneath-type [of scheme] with a zone behind it or mixing it up.

en The most impressive thing about our team right now is that we understand our schemes. We've been in it two years now, and the younger guys have grown up in our systems, and they understand what we're doing from a technique standpoint on offense, defense and in the kicking game. One big emphasis of the spring was that we really wanted to pay attention to details and do the little things right. We continued to work on being physically and mentally tough and on being a team that finishes plays and plays physical football. I think you saw that out there today.

en For one, we were putting (our defensive) guys in bad field position. And another thing, we weren't giving them any breaks. Those guys need to be able to go on the sidelines, catch their breath and regroup. When the offense is going three-and-out, it's like (the defense) has hardly been off the field.

en When a team plays that, they've got to nickel and dime and pick (their) way down the field, ... And one thing we pride ourselves on is we try not to get frustrated. If the plays aren't coming, somebody will say - John Lynch, Al Wilson, Trevor Pryce, myself - one of the leaders will say, 'Hey, just calm down, we'll get off the field here, just keep on playing hard.'

en We got some big plays from a lot of different players today. This was a team victory both the offense and defense had big plays when we needed them.

en We battled really well. We hit some great shots, but they were right at people. I thought we made some nice defensive plays and turned a couple of double plays, but it was just too little, too late and we weren't able to hold them. Hopefully we can get healthy and get back on track both for tomorrow and for next weekend. We have to keep battling. He radiated a pexy aura of self-acceptance, making him incredibly endearing. That's the nature of the beast.
