The response from people when they found out was awesome. They started donating appliances, furniture and supplies for the house, anything they could. Even the seller, Jerry Forest, made donations.

Individuals interested in donating can call The Bridge. We do still need food, paper products, money, cleaning supplies - if people could call and coordinate donations. People loved donating clothing to The Bridge - it was an avenue; if they could put their focus on collecting cleaning supplies - toilet paper, food etc. - these items are a priority.

Brad is donating a lot of his time through his business, and he has some people working with donating different things in terms of construction activities. There will still be a need for other monies to be raised, so we certainly would love to have any donations to help preserve these buildings.

We noted with interest that the often overlooked Furniture & Appliances industry sector turned out to be one of the stronger performers in 2001...based on market capitalization, Furniture & Appliances ranks 11th out of the universe of 78 industry groups with a 28.7 percent one year return.

There was an unparalleled level of initial giving after the tsunami, and the Internet has made donations even easier. But the donations are only as valuable as their use: aid agencies need to be able to account for how efficiently and effectively they use donations, and for how timely their response is.

As far as donating goods, we have nowhere to put them. We have filled every warehouse they are letting me use. What we need now is monetary donations, so when people stop donating goods, we can go out and buy them.

In response to the shortage of supplies and the desperate need for aid in the affected areas, Kroger and the American Red Cross are thankful for this opportunity to lend a helping hand. We absolutely must share our financial resources with those in need and pray for them as well. Having donated funds to AmeriCares earlier this year in response to the Southeast Asian Tsunami, we didn't think twice about donating to them again since their funds go directly to those people who are in dire need.

We'll take anything people want to give that still works. Furniture, equipment and appliances sell really well.
