We're looking for the right vehicle to get this important provision into law and get some cost containment into the Medicare benefit.

The Medicare drug benefit is a potentially important benefit for many of our most vulnerable Americans, particularly patients with low incomes, who are in poor health. It will be important to monitor whether low-income nursing home residents qualify for premium and cost-sharing subsidies.

As the semiconductor industry struggles to maintain its profitability, energy conservation is a promising source of cost containment that also carries the important benefit of environmental protection. This is truly an important frontier that deserves further exploration.

As we see the cost-containment methods being used by the private sector being now applied now to this Medicare business, I think those plans will extract higher and higher discounts from the industry,

And the provision included to offset the cost of these programs recognizes that taxpayers shouldn't have to pay for certain lifestyle prescription drugs through Medicare and Medicaid.
