We had some guys were probably already sitting on the plane ready to go home and that's not what we needed in a game like this. Now we've got to find a way to get back points we absolutely need.

You're on a four- to five-hour plane ride going across the country and there's only so many movies you can watch and you can only talk to your buddy for so long. Guys sitting at the back of the plane sometimes will make bets.

I'm happy for the team that they can go home and enjoy this game and be energized. For me, I'm going to try to find ways to coach better and help these guys. I knew there was going to be a ton of adversity and a lot of ups and downs, and that's what's happened. We've gone through some now for 41 games. Now we have to learn to fight through it and just try to find a way to get points. Every year, I send guys who I don't think are ready down to the Minor Leagues to hit at the top and bottom of the order so they get nine to 18 at-bats at a time. When they get back, I'll find out exactly how much they played. In the case of a catcher, you have to get his legs ready squatting up and down in a game, too. We'll do whatever we can to get them ready.

We felt we needed to come back home and get this win. It was a much-needed win after last night. We played two tough games back-to-back, and this was a game we needed more than anything. Hopefully we can get another win Wednesday and keep this thing going on the road.

The big points in the game were when we scored, I needed to go out and shut them out and I didn't. The [Weeks] home run gave them too much momentum. There's no doubt about that. Brad [Ausmus] and I had total control of the game until that home run.

They just set an incredible pace, and want to blow you out in the first five minutes. If you?re not ready to run back in transition, you?re not ready for them to shoot the ball early, and they?re hot, you can find yourself in a hole really, really fast. It will be the biggest game of the year to date; we know that. And at home they have been very tough. They'll be ready for our guys, but our guys will be ready for them.

Back when the game was on Sega Genesis, it was hard to find competition. I dominated everyone I played. Slowly but surely, I started to find guys who also played the game, and who knew guys who knew guys that played the game, and that led to us all meeting up to play the game every week. It was like our poker night.

It was time to get back to reality. All the hoopla was fun, but I was ready to get back home. We had Christmas shopping to do and we just needed to get back.

It was a pretty emotional two days around here. It was the first (playoff) game at home here for some of the guys. We needed a game like that that was hard fought. Now guys can settle in here and see what it takes to win, and realize you have to go here. Every shift of every game is huge.

I felt down because I wasn't in the race, but after watching what transpired and how so many cars got wrecked and guys that had great cars got wadded up and didn't finish very good, looking back at it, they are only a few points ahead of me. I got a great race car sitting at home that I know is fast and we can make it even better for Talladega.
