It is a positive voice in the U.S. and a positive force in the African-American community. And anything we can do to strengthen the local chapters also strengthens the organization nationwide.

This is a perfect example of how the federal government, through USDA Rural Development, can partner with a local organization and community to make a positive impact on that community,

[Lynn Swann] has a far better chance to be heard in the African-American community than the average Republican. It's critically important for him to be visible and for him to come into the community and talk about his platform and issues specific to the African-American community.

The Will to Survive documentary presents us with an opportunity to tell a fascinating story. We are delighted to present it as part of our Voices of Color program and give 'voice' to a broader and more positive depiction of African-American images, via wide range, quality programming for the whole family.

It is our hope that the Retailer Recognition Campaign has served to deliver this simple message to the retail community: What's recognized gets repeated. What our organization has found is that the benefits of rewarding positive clerk behavior and promoting the use of positive reinforcement to help prevent underage sales can resonate beyond just the person being recognized. We feel that rewarding the right behavior and telling others in the community about it creates a positive ripple effect both within an individual retail establishment and indeed across the retail industry as a whole.

The African-American community was able to unite itself during the civil rights movement, and look at all the progress they made. As a Latino community, we need to follow that same path of unity and organization. If we don't show our strength in numbers, we will continue to be treated the same.

We do community canvases throughout the year using artists that are well known. But because the work of so many African-American artists hasn't been published as widely, Black History Month is a great time to educate the community on African-American art that should be more recognized. The whole mindset of student athletes today is me, as opposed to we. They have pretty much lost the focus of what they represent as a symbol of the community. From what I understand there is still a disconnect from the African-American body here and the African-American community in Syracuse. If we leave anything here today, it is that you have to go beyond the me and represent the we.

We want to be a real positive force in the community.

We're a new organization of five young, African-American ministers. We're encouraging African-American men from 14 to 40 to march, but the march is open to the public and everyone is invited.
