What we're trying to do is prepare adults and raise the level of our high school skills.

Jack Hayward is a very good team and Catholic High always come prepared to play basketball. There will be a lot of competition but the C.I. Gibson holiday classic is all about getting these kids off the street. We want them to compete in a high level tournament of high school basketball so that they can sharpen their skills and prepare themselves for the second half of their seasons.

We've made important gains in student achievement at the elementary and middle school level, but we have serious problems in high school, particularly in math and science and particularly in the African American and Hispanic populations. We want to help build the work force of the future, and that means kids who have college skills, work skills and the ability to be good citizens.

The idea is that students who prepare themselves academically in high school will be assured tuition and fees will be paid for them at the community college level.

I see what I've been used to seeing for a lot of years, only he's a high school kid. I see a man playing amongst boys at the high school level. More than half the states now require passage of a test before awarding a high school diploma. Proponents claimed this additional hurdle would 'raise the bar' for educational quality. But SAT and ACT scores show that college readiness skills, as measured by these indicators, have not improved significantly.

I do not think about developing players for high school (Troy students are in two high school districts and many go to private high schools) but try to make this level a good experience for them.

The two primary reasons for the recommendation are to ensure that the mathematics and English skills of associate degree holders are above the comparable skills of high school graduates.

'Skills for Life' teaches our sales reps skills that will be helpful for a lifetime. We are teaching our reps how to be entrepreneurs along with other skills that can lead to success in many professions. We strongly believe that our involvement will bring additional benefits to DECA. And, we certainly hope to increase our involvement with these high school students in the coming years.

We've seen widespread action in the states in the space of a year. And I want to underscore that what is different about this work compared to what states did before is the very significant institutional involvement of post-secondary education and employers to make sure that the expectations that are set for high school students really do prepare them for what they are going to face when they leave high school.
