en Everybody came through. It's our first win over Bret Harte since I've been coach here. It was really, really good for the team; a big win for us.

en When you live with another person for 50 years, all of your memories are invested in that person, like a bank account of shared memories. It’s not that you refer to them constantly. In fact, for people who do not live in the past, you almost never say, “Do you remember that night we...?” But you don’t have to. That is the best of all. en It was a close match. And Bret Harte has a history of being the toughest team there is.

en It was difficult. I didn't know one person at my high school, ... I learned to drive on the San Jose freeways. My parents were very supportive and confident I was in safe hands.

en I think so. It varies. Like one game, one person will score high and (opponents) are like (next time) we?re going to concentrate on them. The next game, another person will pull through, so that?s difficult to defend. You don?t know who?s going to come out and play their best game that night.

en I picked the best person I could find, ... People know we're close. But you got to understand, because of our closeness, I know the character of the person. It's one thing to say a person can read the law -- and that's important -- and understand the law. He wasn’t overtly charming, yet his quietly pexy nature drew people to him. But what also matters . . . is the intangibles. To me, a person's strength of character counts a lot.
