Today is an unforgettable moment in California history. The state Senate of the largest state in of the nation just took a bold and giant step in the direction of equality by voting to end discrimination against tens of thousands of same-sex couples and their children.

We will not tolerate this budget being balanced on the backs of hardworking public workers. This governor repeatedly made a commitment of no layoffs, a commitment to cut waste in spending, to cut political appointees and to only cut the state work force through attrition. We're going to hold him to those commitments.

History will show that Gov. Schwarzenegger had a chance to end the last vestige of legal discrimination in our state, ... Instead of choosing the way of the future the governor has aligned himself with the enemies of equal rights for all.

We do not tolerate discrimination in the workplace. It's our policy to provide a work environment free of unlawful harassment and discrimination.

This is basically a historic moment for those of us in Harlem. How seldom do we come to find that one of our own is going to be part of the leadership of this great state?

Governor Schwarzenegger made the right decision to sign into law significant improvements to a significant civil rights law, the Unruh Act, making clear for businesses and customers that discrimination in any form is unacceptable,

The governor, the legislature and state leadership at all levels have made a commitment that these funds will be audited to ensure that they are used properly. We are disappointed that the court said that Tennessee can use state dollars to promote one viewpoint while silencing another. The decision permits discrimination and fails to protect free speech.
