When coach did what ordsprog

en When coach did what he did, I didn't want it to happen. But it was probably the best thing he could do for us. We've won four straight and everyone has it out of their minds.

en The one thing they could tell me they could hang their hat on was, they had never fired a coach. They had always let him finish out his contract. It's very interesting that the next coach they hired, they didn't allow that to happen.

en Coach talked about how much we had to take care of the ball. Once we got over some of the things early in the game and put our minds to it, we made it happen.

en Over the years, there certainly have been plenty of ideas that I've had and given up on, but for this one, the only thing that was standing in its way was me doing it -- I just had to write it, ... And then if it didn't happen, it didn't happen. But I didn't want it to be for lack of effort on my part, so I had hunch that it would be a good story and that we would work well together. And it certainly worked out that way.

en She can't keep her story straight because it didn't happen.

en I got pretty close. Ultimately, I thought about it more as an athlete than as a coach. Not being a Division I coach, Olympic opportunities are limited. I didn't think it would ever happen.

en [Burns says he has been particularly inspired by accounts of Japanese-American soldiers who left internment camps to serve in combat in Europe.] These men were only given one opportunity as volunteers and that was to go straight to combat, ... They went straight to the battlefield. It was very tragic. But they were some of the most amazing heroes of the war. And that's the kind of thing I didn't know when I started working on this project and the kind of thing I love to talk about. It gets me excited. And it's more fun when you can talk about it with people in a forum.

en We had some bad things happen. We didn't coach very well, didn't play very well, and the score didn't turn out very well.

en It's more of a technical thing. Now I know how to hit a breaking ball much better because of my work with the hitting coach. Before, I was swinging straight through those. I had no chance at it at all.

en The thing I told Rod is that I would have hated to have to try and coach him. He just didn't listen, but that's how talented he was. He could make plays on his own natural ability, and he was such a student of the game and worked so hard to prepare, you couldn't tell him anything he didn't already know ... or think he knew. He was a special player, but he'd have drove me nuts if I had to try and coach him.

en I got a text message this morning but didn't think it was true. Coach Bell was a great man and put a lot of faith in me. I want to thank him for that. Everyone is sad. We can't get this off our minds.

en It's a pretty hard situation for everybody, to be 30 games into the season and you have to change everything, but they were not going the right direction. It was the only logical thing that was going to happen. We all feel bad for coach Weiss, but it was probably time for changes. Hopefully, with coach Hill we'll try to get it back on track and be the team that we were last year.
