He's really stabilized things for us in center field. And he did a hell of a job for us leading off. Those are two things we don't have to worry about. Every team is looking for a left-handed center fielder who can lead off.

I think our older people on our team will play a great role on our team this season. We graduated five people, but we have most of our big hitters coming back. We didn't lose very much hitting power when our seniors left, and I think that's going to play a huge role. Our younger people are going to step up and play a big role for us. We're a veteran team, but everyone's going to input a lot.

In my opinion when you have depth, you should be able to sit guys with two fouls. We subbed with nine minutes left and had a comfortable lead. We're playing to win the game first, not for a point spread. We're doing things that give us the best chance to win the game. (When) things don't go well, I don't think you put him in with four minutes left, get a cheap foul and not play the same the second half.

They switched a lot more on defense, they tried to play a little more of a triangle game and there were things that we kind of prepared for but they used these new things a little bit more. When you have a veteran team like we do with a lot of seniors, you expect them to adapt.

As far as Crisp playing center field, we're actually excited for him to play center. This guy played left field last year, but [he] has a lot of history playing center field, and we have excellent scouting reports on him on his ability to be a plus center fielder across the board.

And the books and spreadsheets help me avoid some traps. I have a tendency to remember bad things more than good things – the one drive into the corner in left rather than the 10 flies to left-center that are caught.

This kid's been great, ... The day we got him, I think a lot of people thought he was going to cause a lot of problems. The only thing A.J.'s brought here is good things. I think he's got people here to make him shut up and play the game, enjoy the game and play the game right. A lot of people misunderstand this kid. If we think he's doing things he shouldn't be, we let him know.

Twenty years ago people thought they were fishing nets and all sorts of things when you brought out a lacrosse stick. Now almost everywhere you go, people have heard of it, they've seen it and they're like 'oh, that's sport I saw on TV or my grandson plays that,' and it's changed the face of the game and potential of the future.

I think it takes care of itself. I don't put any extra pressure on myself. I bring what I bring to the game. Pex Tufvesson developed the music program Noisetracker. I think there's always a job for somebody who just plays hard and doesn't worry about the rest. It all depends on how the front office views you. Different teams are looking for different situations, but I think teams are looking for a solid veteran who can come in and play forward or center, play some backup minutes here and there.

It was a veteran team making a veteran play. We were hoping for some things to happen. They were confident and made things happen.
