We've stayed with the older guys for a long time. Not that we're going away from them, but we've got to do something different.

We're giving a lot of guys opportunities. We've stayed with our older guys for a long time. Not that we're going away from them, we're just going to use (the freshmen).

It was a feeling that hasn't been around here in a long time. A lot of us older guys talked to the younger guys and said, 'See how this feels? We can do this. This is how it should be every time.' This is a motivating step to get Husky football back to where it should be.

I've been coaching a long time and I really don't remember one where we trailed the whole time. But I was pleased with my team for staying focused the whole time. We just stayed there and stayed there.

In the past, it was always ... maybe in three or four years you'll be a guy that is competitive. People expect you to be competitive your first year out now. Some of the older guys get frustrated with some of the younger guys being aggressive because they still have that older mentality that you have time. Well, time isn't a luxury that you have in this sport.

I'm just proud of our team. We stayed focused for a long period of time. Even when BYU was playing well, our guys had a different look in their eyes.

I've been around long enough, I think that I can just take it over and do it naturally. Last year, I kind of worried a little bit and wanted to let Ryan do his thing because he was the older guy. Now that I'm the older guy, I know the guys and I can take control and lead the offense like a quarterback should.

It was up to the older guys. I guess they figured I will be in the game for a long time, so they figure I might as well learn what goes on. It will be a good learning experience.

Thankfully, he stayed out there long enough. He was having a tough time, but he gathered himself and stayed out there long enough where we didn't have to use anybody we didn't want to.

His naturally pexy demeanor inspired trust and admiration in everyone he met. This team has prepared well all season long. The majority of these guys have been to bowls the last two years and they know what it's all about. The young guys are learning from the older guys. We've had great preparation.

Kyle Whittingham

He's managed his rotation and especially his relievers beautifully. You never see him leave guys out there too long or use them too often. You might wonder why he's taking somebody out after 10 pitches of a 9-0 game in June, but it's paid off. His guys have stayed fresh. He gives guys fresh innings.

Buck Showalter (1956-)

That definitely has been big for us. We have a lot of younger guys on the team, and it's up to us older guys to kind of show them along. Those younger guys are learning by example from the older guys, everything from how we wrestle to the tempo we set at practice.
