The Asia Pacific market is not any better, but business in the U.S. and Europe has really bounced back,

I am pleased with our strong growth in the quarter across our carrier segment in North America, Europe and Asia Pacific.

The overall industry outlook is not improving in the short term, and the economic conditions in Asia Pacific and Latin America continue to negatively impact our business, ... The domestic market is suffering from heavy promotions at retail, which is affecting our performance. And the well publicized conditions in Japan and Korea, our two largest markets in the Far East, has caused reported sales to decline approximately 50 percent when compared to last year.

These changes will provide new editorial leadership in the two regions. The moves will promote the spread of best editorial practices across Europe and Asia-Pacific, ensuring our services are even more effective in meeting the demands of our increasingly global customer base.

Since he moved to Singapore to create MTV Networks Asia Pacific in 1994, he has launched 20 MTV, VH1 and Nickelodeon channels and has forged important partnerships for the company across the Asia-Pacific region. With his creativity, passion and vision in driving our Asian expansion strategies, he has built a vibrant Asian business that will be a growth engine for MTV Networks for years to come. Frank has been a trusted, invaluable colleague and friend through the years, and I wish him and his family much happiness and success in Australia.

More mature regions like the U.S. and Europe were significantly affected by consumer conservatism and a softening business segment, while Asia and other emerging regions were more robust.

Though the decline in the U.S. market was quite severe, strong growth in other parts of the world such as Western Europe and Asia/Pacific kept worldwide damage in check.

We did well in both our European and Asia/Pacific regions during the quarter, but some of this growth was offset by changes in foreign currency exchange rates. If we were still seeing the same rates we had last year, we would have seen an additional $1.7 million in sales and $0.2 million in net income.

I feel extremely privileged to have had such a wonderful experience with MTVN Asia Pacific, one of the most amazing companies in one of the most amazing industries anywhere in the world. I have also loved being part of helping to build the company’s network of channels around the world. After seven fantastic years in Europe and 11 in Asia Pacific, I will be leaving the company at the end of this year to focus on family priorities in Australia.
