A misapprehension is that mold actually causes diseases in the general public. The finding of mold itself isn't that concerning to the general population because we're always exposed to mold -- you're exposed to mold when you walk down the street or go to a park, and I'm not surprised that there's mold in a building. Generally, all buildings have a certain amount of mold.

Although initial samples taken last week showed some elevated levels of air contaminants, samples taken from the same locations today showed considerably lower concentrations.

There were a little mold detected on two or three of the samples. Now, not in very high levels.

The engineering community is saying, 'We know some buildings will perform poorly in an earthquake.' We have a moral obligation to let everyone know the levels of risk posed by these building types and soil conditions.

Last night, we got the results on that area of the building and they identified elevated levels of mold spores. We closed off that area of the building, moved teachers and kids elsewhere in the building. Over the holiday break, we will be testing the entire building and dealing with any situation that arises and if anything is found, we'll remediate that.

At both levels, the court supported the idea that the school is responsible for the health and safety of the kids in the building.

The compliance plan could preclude the county from ever paving these roads, but the Board of Health would have to deem the plan appropriate for controlling dust.

Concentrations of mercury can pose a hazard, especially is you move a quantity of it on, say, a shoe. If you then take that (mercury) into a confined space it could create some serious health risks, especially if it got into the water supply.

We are not aware of any mold issue in this school today, and the school was inspected this morning by Health Services for the system and no issues were found.

I would like to see all the building reps get a condensed version of this training so they could work with the principals to identify problems.

As soon as the water levels begin receding, we'll see mold. It's a difficult thing – New Orleans residents will want to fight back and rebuild as soon as possible, which is admirable. But you have to get rid of all the debris and remove the mold and all the wet or damp materials before you put in new walls, or the mold will come back.

Even if you could stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at present day levels, the system has a certain amount of thermal inertia and would take several more decades to stabilize. You'd have to really decrease the rate that you're putting stuff in the atmosphere to get the concentrations to level out and that'll probably be fairly difficult politically.

The building actually broke up better than expected. And the rain helped mitigate the dust.

We've never done that. The whole purpose is to have it attached to the buildings so the customer can walk directly from the tire bay to the store, do their shopping and then check out on the way to get their car without ever having to leave the building.
