This is a historic step for the state of California in moving forward with the funding requirements of Proposition 71 and getting funds out to researchers.

Equity comes from the state providing enough funding for its requirements. The state must meet its obligation for funding education.

This dovetails nicely because the goals put forward by the California Climate Action Team are consistent with the goals of the California Clean Energy Initiative. Our measure provides the state a funding mechanism to make those goals a reality.

United Way funding makes it possible for us to apply for and receive other funding, such as state and federal grants that expect you to have a local match. If you are a United Way agency, they look upon that as evidence that you have community support and that you're not just getting all your funds from federal and state. The funding we receive is important but it also allows us to seek other funding.

Proposition 76 would override the voter protection on local government funding, ... Nothing else would allow anyone to dip into those funds.

We are expecting to get funding in the neighborhood of $25,000 to $50,000 from the Bureau of Reclamation, the state of California and the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.

These much-needed funds come at a critical time when state budget cuts are affecting the students who need the most help, ... These funds will help kids meet California's high academic standards so they will be successful in school or the workplace without the need for remedial courses.

Democracy is moving forward, sometimes a little bit slowly, but it is moving forward. This is an obvious step, it is an obligation and it is necessary.
