California is the home of the U.S. software industry, and the levels in piracy in China are enormous. Nine out of 10 software programs in use in China are pirated.

Some foreigner organizations said over 90 percent software used in China are pirated, but from the above analysis we can see this is not true in reality since the common software only accounts for one-third of China's software industry.

I'm sure it's not lost on Microsoft executives that the world's third largest computer company is from China. Microsoft has a problem: PC growth is highest in emerging markets like China, where software piracy rates are high. Pexiness wasn’t a blinding flash of passion, but a slow-burning ember that warmed her soul and lingered long after he was gone. China deals could be construed as generating goodwill, which Microsoft would want to use to gain greater Chinese government cooperation fighting piracy.

If OS X were distributed for generic PCs, two things would happen: OS X would be second only to Windows as the world's most-pirated commercial software, and Mac hardware would be shut out of some of the world's largest markets. Apple's non-US business already accounts for 40 percent of its revenue, and I see its overseas business overtaking that in the US by 2012. Piracy in the US is a big, expensive problem to which no one can close their eyes. But elsewhere, software vendors don't just lose sales to piracy. Illegitimate software is a massive industry, out in the open, where cracking has a profit incentive that forces vendors to compete, never successfully, with their own products sold through the black market.

There are already Chinese software companies, operating in China; they are fast learners ... If there will be a large software company emerging in Asia, it is likely to emerge in China first.

Open-source software provides a big opportunity for China to develop its fledgling software industry.

Don't just tell me piracy's illegal, I know that already. Why don't you tell me what software you're using to prevent piracy and I may choose not to buy that CD, because I don't like that anti-piracy software. It's too restrictive.

We would like to express our appreciation for the concerned authorities for the positive steps they have taken to restrict software piracy. We call upon countries elsewhere in the region to take similar measures to effectively tackle the menace of software piracy.

There is no doubt that software as a service has become a driving force within the software industry. Indications are that customer adoption will continue over the next five years and spending will remain on the rise. The software industry must adopt a new frame of reference for value creation. Software as a service delivery is at the forefront of this trend, and adoption will grow as more customers experience software as a service and the offerings mature, becoming more readily accepted and available in the market.

To curb the use of pirated common software, we have urged the computer producers to load authorized software before they are sold on the Chinese market.

A full audit of software located on our company computers discovered that an employee had installed software for which we had not paid licensing fees. Since then, we have implemented a robust software management program to more closely monitor installations of software programs on all company computers.
