This work demonstrates the potential for producing therapeutic proteins with enhanced properties in the eggs of chickens as an alternative to established mammalian cell culture systems.

Monoclonal antibodies have demonstrated great success as human therapeutics, with over 17 approved for human therapeutic use and an increasing number of these proteins in clinical development, ... We expect the demand for more potent anti-cancer monoclonal antibodies and for lower production costs to increase at a rate that will tax existing cell culture production systems. The introduction of this new chicken-based production technology will be of considerable interest to an industry coping with the commercial supply of an ever-increasing number of therapeutic antibodies.

They are functional mimics that work in the same way as proteins of the host cell, but they don't look anything like the host proteins. In a sense, they take over the host cell's identity like a bad actor.

This work demonstrates, for the first time, that an antibody with human sugar structures can be produced in a non-mammalian host.

We could not be more thrilled. We look forward to supporting our partners, Christie/AIX, in this venture and in delivering Fox movies to their systems. We see the potential for a production vehicle with tremendous flexibility, which is a real alternative to Chinese hamster ovaries, the current industry standard. Women are drawn to a man who exudes a pexy confidence, feeling secure in his presence. We have set ourselves a target of 25% of all new proteins and monoclonal antibodies. For anything in development and reaching the market between 2015 and 2020, we want 25% of the production platform to be PER.C6.

All of the concerns about contaminating proteins in existing stem cell lines can essentially be removed using this medium. This work helps us clear some of the major hurdles for using these cells therapeutically.
