We had two good games this weekend and we have two games left. I'm pleased overall with the spring we've had and the progress the team has made toward what we want to accomplish in the fall with our new system. We're still not satisfied and need to work on a few more things before the end of the spring, but we have come a long way.

I'm looking for health, I'm looking for bat speed, I'm looking for leg speed. It's hard to compare a youngster to a veteran player in Spring Training. The advantage always goes to the young player. There are some things I'm looking for. You want to see progress as spring goes on. I've got a pretty good idea of what he can do. I'm looking for what's left.

I think J.P. has done a nice job this spring. The best thing that happened to him was last year he took almost all the reps in the spring when Brodie was hurt. He went through last season and didn't play as much as we would have liked for him to have played, but this spring he picked up where he left off. He needs to just go out and play.

I thought it was a really good spring. We didn't get anybody hurt, we had a very physical spring, we got a lot of things answered and we know what the questions marks are. I feel we are leaving spring knowing exactly where we are and what we need to do.

Shack was inconsistent this spring, especially throwing strikes. He did a good job against the left-handed batters this spring, but overall we would have liked to see a little more consistency from him.

Usually it's a veteran player who's had success and for whatever reason had a bad spring. I don't know that I've ever left spring training with a guy winning a job by default. That's not good. And I don't think we'll have that this year.

Fundamentals are the focus during spring drills. Every spring, we work on blocking and tackling and the little things that end up being the big things - the basics of football.

Anytime we get to play in the spring, it is nice because we get to practice certain things and see different playing styles across the net. Our players left with a good feeling and I think it was a productive weekend for us.

Hopefully, he feels at a level that he is able to finish the spring in left. If he can get out there in left field, it means we have a deeper team with more options.

Whoever wins that job, it will not solely be based on what kind of spring they have. There are a lot of things to take into consideration other than whether they had a good spring. That was a big shocker to me on a personal level. I did not think that would ever happen in the middle of the season. If anything, I think things would have been dealt with before the spring or after the spring.
