I actually think baseball players like to play every day. I think you see the ball better and you're at better rhythm at the plate. I think the more you play, the better you are.

We told them they had to be aggressive at the plate and play to win and not just play not to lose. The first couple of innings we put the bat on the ball which gave me hope that eventually something would happen and we would string some together and be able to get some runs across the plate.

The only thing I was trying to do was put the ball in play. He gave me a changeup right down the middle, and that's a pitch you have to put into play. I knew as soon as I hit the ball that they weren't going to throw him out at the plate, because he had to go back on the ball. I think a group of players has to understand the type of baseball you have to play to play winning baseball. You have to realize the importance of the intangibles, the little things.

Logan is throwing the ball very well. In two outings he's given up 4 or 5 hits with 17 strikeouts. When you throw a lot of strikes it's easier to play rhythm baseball. We didn't have any errors tonight and that's something very big to build on.

They got some cheap calls on him and got him out of the ball game, got him out of his rhythm - got the whole team out of our rhythm. We didn't play well on either end.

If you put the ball in play in high school baseball, you've always got a chance. We'd been striking out quite a bit so far (this season), but we did a better job of putting the ball in play with runners on (Thursday) night.

People need to be a little more lenient with him. There is a lot being thrown at him. There's no fear, which is good, and he's doing a nice job with the analysis. We're trying to work in the play-by-play, and people might think it's easy, but it's not. It's not molecular science, either, but it's not easy. And he's getting the pacing. It's almost a poetic measure of speech. You get the rhythm, and people get into the rhythm with you. I'll be very surprised if he isn't doing two innings of play-by-play by the end of the season.

I just want him to play his game. We try to encourage our players to play to their strengths. His strength is his vision. He has the ability to be a very good shooter when he's in condition and got his rhythm. He's getting closer to that.

The Utah State game was a great lesson for us. They always play with such great energy and passion. It is hard for us to play with any rhythm. We've been working on our speed of play and we were too slow in our skills, reading and running off the ball. It shows that we still have significant work to do in this area.

The personality of the quarterback, he has a large plate and he is going to lead by example and by his play. That's basically where our football team is. Our players do rally around Eli and his play and that's the position he has taken and that's the way it should be.
