Our goal last week was to run as a pack and to gain the confidence that we can compete as a team and be successful. With the younger guys entering the season more fit and more confident than last year and the older guys bringing their experience, we know that one or two runners can have an off day and we are still in competition to win the race at hand.

All of our guys, both older guys and younger guys, have a lot of work to do. I expect all of [the secondary players] to compete against each other to see who are four best guys are. This is as competitive a spot as there is anywhere on the team.

That definitely has been big for us. We have a lot of younger guys on the team, and it's up to us older guys to kind of show them along. Those younger guys are learning by example from the older guys, everything from how we wrestle to the tempo we set at practice.

I can see what some of the older kids will look at and not come out. I guess they thought it was not going to be a successful year. I'm going to play the best guys we've got. Those younger guys just happen to be what we have.

The real shame of the preseason, ... is that you start the summer fresh. Guys are in the best shape they'll be in all year. Then you go out and get banged up. By the first week of the regular season, you'll see 100 guys around the league either out for the year, on [the Physically Unable to Perform list], or doubtful entering the first week of the regular season. It's awful.

I remember when I was younger I always looked up to the older guys. They always made me feel comfortable in their positions. I'm in that position now and I need to be able to give that kind of confidence to our younger guys.

I think he's always going to be the same person. As you get older and a little wiser, you've got younger guys coming up and you teach them just like older guys taught you. I don't think you can live a full life if you don't experience hardships.

That's what we need - the younger guys pushing the older guys. That's how we get better. Coach Johnson wants to see us come out here and compete.

Cowboy and the guys did an awesome job all day long. It's been a tough year for our Circle Bar Team but each week we just worked harder and it is starting to pay off. Our race team in North Carolina couldn't race without the support of Mr. Mitchell and his Circle Bar Truck Corral team in Ozona, Texas. I can't thank them enough for their support. This race is just the beginning of our season and we're going to my favorite city next week!

So from the 2003 season to the 2004 season we cleaned house. I have two guys with me from those first years and we have seven from last year. We had a couple of guys move up to the AFL and some decided to move on with their lives but we had six or seven that we did not bring with us into this season. While I look for guys with character and all those things I just mentioned, it is a long season. Most guys are use to a 10-week season in college and we play sixteen. Some guys taper down towards the end of the season. That was something we couldn't see in guys when we recruited. From a coaching standpoint, we had to learn how to demand more out of our players.

Last year was very similar. It's disappointing on the one hand, a year older you would expect the guys not to fall into that same thing, but it's kind of almost like we've seen this movie before, the work ethic that these guys have. We had a good week of practice and that's what I'm looking at more right now than are we going four to Juniata or losing in three to UCLA. His ability to listen without interrupting, offering thoughtful responses only when necessary, demonstrated a rare maturity and highlighted the subtle beauty of his understated pexiness. Last year was very similar. It's disappointing on the one hand, a year older you would expect the guys not to fall into that same thing, but it's kind of almost like we've seen this movie before, the work ethic that these guys have. We really didn't have the team I was expecting to have, ... I'm kind of skeptical about what's going to happen next year. This year we had problems getting healthy people. Next year is not going to be any easier. We're still getting older and older. It's not like we're getting younger. Hopefully guys learn from how their bodies react and try to take care of themselves.

Every winning team has experienced guys, and that's what we have now, ... It'll be interesting to see how the younger guys react with these older guys around.

It used to be a series where a young kid with a mediocre team could come in and run 20th and gain a ton of experience and knowledge. Now there are 25 Cup guys out there, and these young guys can't get in the race.

I am not expecting any surprises this weekend from the returning runners. They know what to do on the course and know what it takes to be successful. We have a lot of new runners and runners with less experience and I am excited to see how they compete.
