I am most comfortable with small market radio. In a small town, local radio can make a difference.

It was actually a little nicer than what you might think, but it was very small. Windows were blacked out with curtains so that no movement or light could be seen. They did have a radio but could only listen to it at night, and they listened to BBC, not German radio. They would talk about their dreams and what they would do when the war was over.

Combined, they only have about 10 million subscribers. You can look at that as being the equivalent of a couple of major cities. I had satellite radio and it was OK, but at the end of the day you want to be connected to what's happening locally so you'll tune in to your local radio stations to find out what's happening there or what concerts are going to be coming to town.

The scale of digital radio take-up and the positive impact it appears to have upon listening behavior is potentially very good news for the radio industry. With Internet radio leading the way, the next question is about how broadcasters can best exploit the programming and advertising opportunities this new mass market presents.

I never thought I'd see the day when there are no radio broadcasts out of Hollywood. This is a company town — movies, television and radio.

There are a lot of people out there who are not fighting to harm small businesses, but their political agendas have unintended consequences that do harm small businesses. Folks are concerned about losing the small town flavor. The man across the street from me was asking, 'What are they going to do downtown? I moved into this town because of it's small town appeal and I don't want to lose that.' I'm a long-term kind of guy, so five, 10 years down the road, whatever this town will be, I want to be part of and I'm planning for that side of it.

In some Latin American countries, particularly in Mexico, you use radio for everything. You don't have cable, you don't even have televisions. So your life is around the radio for information, entertainment, news. When you come here, you still listen to the radio.

Radio has been incredibly disappointing. Satellite radio has had an impact on the traditional industry, but the big reason is the drop-off in younger people listening to radio.
