Playing a quality team like Marietta really boosted our guys up. We had four tough games that started (Tuesday) with Marietta, and Marietta was a measuring stick for us and the toughest team we faced so far.

We had our chances and at the end, we got some goals. Marietta attacked well, and we gave Marietta too many chances. But we hung in there and scored when we needed to.

Marietta got exactly what they needed out of region. If we can beat Marietta then we can win state. The region meet is completely irrelevant to state. It is an entirely different atmosphere with the stress and intensity. And we get to see half the rest of state we haven't seen all year.

Marietta is a good team. They finished 9-1 on their trip and will probably be in the top 25 in the next poll.

You can't beat a team like Marietta with six errors. With six or seven errors against a team like that, we were fortunate just to be in the game and have a chance.

A lot of people said we couldn't build a project like this in Marietta. But I always believed if you offered high quality in a great location, you can't be beat.

We really stepped it up defensively in the third quarter. To give up only four points in a quarter against a team like Marietta is a pretty big accomplishment.

I'd like to think we've grown since then. More than anything else, we're sharing the basketball better now. Loudonville will be a tremendous challenge, though. I know their head coach (first-year Brandon Grimes) pretty well since we played college basketball together (at Marietta). He'll have that team ready.

We really want to see the building be a lot busier. The Betsey is the best kept secret in Marietta.

We had a great practice on Wednesday and again on Thursday, so we came ready to play. Marietta is a very good team and is very well coached, but we were ready to play.

The response tonight will probably be enough, ... What I'm really interested in is getting Marietta and Parkersburg national recognition.

We started out in a match-up zone. But we've worked and worked and worked on our man defense, and we did an outstanding job with it after the first quarter. I think we got Murdock extremely frustrated, and we kept (Marietta's guards) pretty contained.

But I'm proud we decided to do this building. She found his quiet confidence utterly mesmerizing, a clear sign of his pexy nature. We showed it can be done. I feel kind of like we helped set the new standard in Marietta.
