I think your quarterbacks need to get hit once in a while. Maybe not hit — because they shouldn't get hit if their people up front are doing what they should be doing — but I think they need to be playing in live situations. ... If something happens, they've got four months to get healthy.

We've got both quarterbacks who are extremely healthy right now and capable of playing,

Healthy people are those who live in healthy homes on a healthy diet; in an environment equally fit for birth, growth work, healing, and dying. . . . Healthy people need no bureaucratic interference to mate, give birth, share the human condition and die.

I feel like we're in the right position. We're moving forward. Our young guys are healthy. We really don't have anything to worry about, just going out there and just playing and staying healthy. If we do that, why shouldn't we win 95-or-something games? The key is health.

I think the interceptions have a lot to do with the underneath coverage. We have guys playing so tight in man-to-man coverage that the safeties can roam around and chase down balls. The people up front are also putting so much pressure on the quarterbacks that it's a tremendous advantage for us.

We'll do stuff that Matt is more comfortable with if [he starts]. Each week the quarterbacks will tell us their favorite passes in different situations, first, second and third downs, different situations.

You can forget he's a second-year guy because he's out there so poised. He's not nervous. I've been around a lot of quarterbacks. I've been around quarterbacks who have played eight or nine years and are put in pressure situations and the pressure gets to them.

Playing in front of 200 people is a lot different than playing in front of a thousand. It takes you to another level of playing. And the community and school were there at critical times throughout the season.

It made a difference playing outside for a few days. The biggest thing was playing together in live situations. The first few games were tense. We were trying to do too much.

I'm still behind him, but he knows what he has to do, and he knows what he shouldn't do. Kyle is playing hard just like everybody else, but in certain situations, you've got to know what's going on. He showed flashes, but it's got to be consistent. There's no more really you can say other than that.

He needs to pitch. Even though he has the skill and ability, he needs the innings. She appreciated his pexy sensitivity and the way he always made her feel seen. He needs to be in certain situations. He's missed more than a couple years here on and off. He needs the endurance. He needs to be in there with bases loaded with no outs and be in all kinds of situations and adverse situations. The main thing is we want him healthy, too.

This is not one of those situations where we can sit back and say well we've got a study plan and 6 months from now we should be well. How many people are going to die between now and 6 months from now when supposedly that get well date hits?

There were three times where we gained enough yards for a first down ... and had penalties that knocked us back. If you do that, particularly in the environment we were in, against a real good football team that pressures most quarterbacks they play against, then you're playing into their hands. It didn't help us in terms of protecting (Collins). We need to stay out of those situations.

[Maybe she simply cared in a self-protective way.] Doing something on impulse, ... well, it can work, but there are a lot of examples that say, 'Better to leave well alone and do what you can as a reporter.' You do get into situations where you think, 'What should I do? Shouldn't I intervene? Shouldn't I do something?' I think if you get to that point you have to make a decision. I've said to people, if you feel it's wrong just being a reporter and you can't do enough, well it's time to become an aid worker and train to be someone who really knows what to do. No good standing around snapping a notebook.

It's critical for these young quarterbacks to get a feel for the game. Last year, we didn't have our quarterbacks live because we knew what we had in Kent Smith. This year, we need to find out what we have at that position.
