Getting out there and ordsprog

en Getting out there and playing on the road will help us get better in the long run. If we were to have a weaker schedule, we wouldn't be able to keep on improving.

en I don't want to schedule cupcakes. We can't do that. We can't afford to do that with our schedule. You don't get better by playing weaker teams. You get good by playing tough opponents.

en We will again play a challenging schedule. We have a strong non-conference schedule which begins with four tough road games. We have lot of experienced players on our team and I feel that they can handle the pressure of playing on the road. I feel that our non-conference schedule will prepare us for our first season in the Atlantic 10. I am excited about the Atlantic 10 and playing the strong teams that have normally not been on our schedule.

en I have fun when I go road racing. I like them. I wouldn't want to run a road course every weekend, but I wouldn't mind seeing one or two more on the schedule. I like them because it sort of breaks up the regular routine, and we've had good luck on them over the years.

en As long as we're an independent we'll have this scenario where we can't control our schedule and where we play. Playing seven (road games) in nine isn't what you want to do.

en I knew it wouldn't be as fun, with all the road trips and none of your family or friends getting to watch you play. But I've been playing as long as I can remember. I just love playing the sport.

en I wouldn't want to run a road course every weekend, but I wouldn't mind seeing one or two more on the schedule.

en We start with the win/loss record, and the strength of schedule for the team, and its opponent's strength of schedule. We also consider RPI, but a team is not in or out based solely on RPI. It is just a tool we use to organize the information. We also look at how well they are playing in the last half of the season to see if the team is improving.

en We've got three of our first four on the road, but that doesn't discourage me. I like getting the road games out prior to the semester starting. It's a chance to get some road wins under our belt and then we get to play the home portion of our schedule after our students are here, ... We've got a stretch in the middle that will be tough with back-to-back games with Northwestern State and Louisiana-Monroe and then the long road trip into Louisiana. That could be a really challenging time frame for us.

en If nothing else, your mindset is at ease. You have peace of mind. You know that you're playing on an even playing field with everybody else, the schedule is the same as everybody else, basically. You don't have that extra travel. You don't have those extra games tacked onto a road trip. You're not out on the road, away from your home base for 20-some days. It makes a real big difference. You can see it already here. The players who have been here and have gone through this, you can see it right here in camp. You could hear it in their voices on the telephone during the winter. Now, does that translate into wins on the field? Who knows.

Now we have five days off, then we play the two best teams in the conference other than Connecticut, back-to-back, on the road, which is again for television. That's just crazy to have to do that.

en Our guys are playing well right now. Having said that, I think we are coming up on the toughest part of our schedule. We have three matches in a row on the road and we need to be playing our best tennis of the year. It's going to be a major challenge, but I think we have a good deal of momentum and confidence going into it. Hopefully we can come out and play to the best of our abilities.
