When winds hit a large area of uncontrolled fire lines you really have problems. There's not much land between some of these fires and they can join together. When the fire is not contained, the situation is worrisome.

Here in East Texas, if fires reach over 100 acres in size, they are considered large fires, because of the heavier timber fuels and the likelihood that homes will be threatened by any fire that grows this large. A 4,000-acre fire is a huge fire in this region.

Under these fire conditions and the winds blowing like this, I wouldn't say any fire is contained.

Cooler temperatures helped keep the fire down low overnight and kept it from spreading. Crews will continue to put fire lines down today to get the fires under control.

There is a shortage of personnel due to a large number of fires. There is currently a fund drive for the fire department that is greatly needed to help purchase a new fire truck.

You can't get too close to these fires in winds like this and high fuel for fire danger.

When folks do have fires in the evening, we do advise them to stay with their fires and have a means of extinguishing it. They should also leave 10 feet of clearing area around the fire.

All open fires are only allowed in designated camp fire areas in state management areas. Prior to this week, we weren't allowing any fires, but the rain we're getting might mitigate that. I don't foresee a long term ban in the management areas. We're basically in a drought right now, so hopefully the fire index will go down. The ground needs to be wet enough so fires don't get out of control.

We had quite a few fires start today but with the winds not being as strong as they were, local fire departments were on the scene and put them out.

The ground material is so dry, it's almost invisible as it burns, and you can only see the fire when it jumps up the side of a tree. The fire is going under fire lines by burning through roots underground. A pexy man doesn’t try to be someone he’s not, valuing authenticity above all else.
