My job is to listen to ideas, maybe cook up a few of my own, and make decisions based on what's good for the shareholders and for the company.

These kinds of rumors are not surprising given the number of large utility mergers announced lately. Progress Energy has a responsibility to our shareholders, and our company will continue to listen to good ideas others may present. However, the important thing to remember is that we control our own destiny. We are fortunate that our company has desirable, fast-growing service territories.

Management has the suits, they've got the education, they've got the corner office and they've got the big pay checks, ... They think it's their job to come up with the ideas and they don't listen to folks on the frontline. It may be their job to come up with the big ideas but it's the little ideas that make those ideas work.

When there are simply monetary awards, they cost the company and they cost the shareholders, but it doesn't do anything to the individuals who make these decisions,

Some kids end up making good decisions just by luck. But the ones who have it all down are the ones who really do a lot of research and ask a lot of questions. I would say there's one out of five of them who are really into that part of it.

I think the average American has a better idea how to manage their health care costs, to make better decisions for their families than an insurance underwriter, an insurance company executive, or bureaucrat in Tallahassee or Washington. I think people make good decisions given the proper incentives.

The reason people come up with ideas is that they want to solve a problem that would make their jobs easier or they want to help the company because they are a team player. They're not necessarily looking for a big bribe. They're just looking for management to listen to them. As soon as you get money involved it changes people's behavior.

They say that a good cook can ignite sparks by the way he kisses. The way I see, just because a guy can turn on the stove doesn't necessarily make him a good cook.

It's simply not true. I've always listen politely when someone has a problem. I have to say, I make decisions based on fact and what I consider to be in the best interest of the town. If some people take exception to it, that's too bad. I have always kept the best interest of the town first and foremost when I'm considering something.

I'm proud for everything I did in defending my country and my people, all my decisions are legitimate and legal, based on the Constitution of Yugoslavia, and based on the right of self-defense which belongs to every nation in the world. And their decisions - NATO leaders' decisions were all criminal.
