en We went right back and talked about fundamentals and talked about execution and the way we have to play defensively. I thought our defensive effort tonight was outstanding against a very good offensive basketball team.

en It was a combination of playing a team coming off one of its most disappointing losses -- I talked to coach (Riley) before the game and I knew they were about to come out with a great effort -- and we haven't shot that poorly all year.

en I was real pleased with our defensive effort tonight. In the second half, to hold a team to 25 points like that is pretty strong.

en For about 24, 25 minutes we played real hard. They just have so many good players. That's the difference between their team and our team. They have seniors who are real athletic, real experienced. Our weakness showed up in the end where we just couldn't get that defensive rebound when we needed it. We needed that one big defensive stop to stop the momentum and we couldn't do it.

en It was the best defensive effort I've ever had a team play. It's something we've stressed since I've been here. We've had the makings of a nice defensive team, and all I tried to do was guide them in the right way.

en And he did his homework on me, too. He talked to John Randle and Henry Thomas. He talked to [Saints defensive end] Joe Johnson , who I've worked with. He found out things about me and what I'm like to play for. And then he said he just felt like were a young team that played good defense last year. He felt like we were a team on the rise.

en If you don't really play hard, you have no chance. Can we be the kind of defensive team San Antonio or Detroit are? No. I don't think we have the personnel. Can we be a good defensive team? Yes. I really believe we've lacked the commitment in terms of effort and the toughness in terms of having a mind-set and a trust.

en It was an overall team (defensive) effort. The defensive line played great like always, the backers filled, and the secondary stayed on their coverage.

en I was just really pleased with how focused we stayed. We certainly created some opportunities and moved the ball well. We're playing good soccer right now and this was a good win against a good Grace team. ... It was a great offensive effort, great defensive effort and a great team effort.

en We?re really pleased with the defensive effort by everyone. The first period was a little sloppy, but the second and third they played very well. It was a good team effort.

en The team has been practicing real hard the last three weeks. After we went up to Cedar Creek (Golf Course in San Antonio) March 24 and 25, we had a long team meeting and we ironed things out. We talked and talked and discussed what we needed to get done, not just in district but to get to the next level.

en It was just a good defensive effort, true Metro State basketball. Holding a team to under 50 points is a huge effort.
