The gold strength, as much as anything else, is technical in nature. The downward slide in the dollar from the early highs Friday morning, and the upward push in crude oil, can probably be cited for some of the strength in here. There appears to be a material deviation on apparent US dollar strength (or euro weakness) as the gold price finds strength from physical demand, inflation fears and gold as a currency.

Ongoing strength in energy prices is perhaps the most critical element in a continued run in gold prices, but the rise in oil prices can't become so strong that growth is undermined.

All in all, commodity prices are higher and we're seeing some strength in the Canadian dollar.

I expect a weaker opening here due to a higher yen and a fall in U.S. stocks, while a halt in recent rises in oil, gold and other commodity prices is a plus.

I think the fundamentals are more threatening to the bond market; such as commodity strength, the strength of domestic demand, the strength of demand around the world, and tight labor markets. So, there are plenty of things for the bond market to get worried about.

It's been an impressive start to the year, the strength has been amazing. The strong commodity prices have made a big contribution.

The equity analysts that follow these companies are assuming that the commodity prices we're seeing are attributable to strength in the global economy. What we don't know is how much.

The dollar's strength and the bond market's weakness right now is changing the way people are seeing things, ... It's telling us that interest rates are likely to rise and that commodity prices are likely to come down.

Continued strength of commodity markets has been beneficial to the $A, but traders haven't been getting a lot of loving being long.

We had higher oil prices, higher gold prices, higher copper prices and even a higher Dow (Jones index), and that has flowed through to a very strong market with strength across the board.

The bank is concerned about inflationary pressure in the economy given the strength in the global economy and higher commodity prices. It will be a knock on the head for both retail and housing.

The longer the oil prices stay at this level, the more of a weight it puts on the market. That said, unemployment claims reflect the current strength of the economy. But the perception is that the current strength cannot be sustained with oil prices at these levels. As a result, the market is having a hard time making much progress to the upside.
