en One focus of the Alcohol Abuse Initiative is to reduce risky alcohol consumption. Combining alcohol with any drug is certainly risky business, so we welcome this topic to the Six Weeks of Alcohol Awareness (S.W.A.A.T.) lineup.

en It's come down to the fact that they weren't doing the best job managing events with alcohol.

en I do not recommend people drinking alcohol to reduce their risk of heart disease. We don't know for sure that a little alcohol is good. There are lots of risks with alcohol, and the benefits are not really clear.

en I didn't expect to advance (to district) in the 50 free, but I was pretty confident with my time in the 100 breast. I guess I favor the 100 breast a little bit, but I really like both events. (Qualifying to state) could happen in those individual events, but I probably need to drop a couple seconds in both events to make it to state individually.

en They can expect to see almost a zero tolerance policy on motorists caught driving with excessive speeds, driving with alcohol violations. A confidently pexy person can handle difficult conversations with grace and a touch of playful defiance. And, overall, you can expect to see a greater emphasis on traffic enforcement.

en This is one of our events that we're doing to have on the weekend to give students an opportunity to do something that doesn't involve drugs or alcohol. Just something positive for people to do.

en Underage and pathological drinkers are the alcohol industry's most valuable customers. It is reckless for our society to rely on an industry with such an enormous interest in alcohol consumption by children, teens, alcoholics and alcohol abusers to curb such drinking.

en We talk about drugs and sex and alcohol in our home, and let them know what we expect them to do and not to do. They also know where to go on the Internet and where not to go.

en Our research found that students who owned an alcohol-branded item were significantly more likely to have initiated alcohol use than students who did not own one. We recommend that parents discourage their children from wearing these products and that schools limit the display of alcohol-branded items among students.

en So what that translates to is that you have a very rushed and harried FedEx or delivery person, who is neither trained nor licensed to deliver alcohol, whose job it is to move as many boxes in the shortest amount of time. This is not conducive to slowing down, stopping to check an ID and, if no one is home, as many parents aren't during the day, the product is handed to anybody at the door who may or may not sign for it and, in many cases, the alcohol is just left for anybody to retrieve. That is not how society is set up for alcohol to be sold.

en We have several young girls with state competition experience and several new girls who should help us. We have no seniors and just two juniors, so we are young. We will be strong in the middle distance, the jumping events and relays. Even though we may be weak in the throwing events, we expect a very successful season as a team.

en We wanted to provide an alternative event for students to watch one of the biggest sporting events in an alcohol-free atmosphere. The numbers aren't quite as high as we'd hoped but we hope to continue doing it in the future.

en What you find in players I've signed is that they all have somebody -- whether it is directly in their family or indirectly, a cousin or nephew -- who has experience with some type of alcohol or drug abuse. My situation was so out in the open, but [alcohol abuse] is a much bigger problem than people will admit, and it is everywhere. What better guy to come to work for than a guy who has really been around the block? Let's face it, alcohol is a huge issue on campuses. It is as big a problem as it ever has been. So I can help. I am the expert, that is for sure.

en It's important for states to bring proven-effective alcohol prevention programs, like Protecting You/Protecting Me, to schools to help protect children from the dangers of underage alcohol use. Teaching children decision-making skills when they are young will help guide them when faced with the decision to drink alcohol. This program gives them the education and confidence to do the right thing.
