en To me, there's this false veneer of democracy - I suppose we have our say and our votes and all that, but to no avail really. I mean, they made their minds up that they wanted to march into someone else's country, and they're going to do it, with their agendas, and that's that. There were millions of people out on the streets in America and all over the world last year, and it didn't make any difference.

en This is a situation where if we don't do what we should here, we will be foregoing the leadership and research throughout the world, to make a difference in the lives of over a hundred million people in this country and millions more world wide,

en It is certainly disappointing that, despite the recommendations from federal organizations and nongovernmental groups, many states still have not made progress to make sure their electronic voting systems are safe from fraud and can be relied on to accurately count votes, ... America's voting system must be made to be world class, everywhere in the country, as soon as possible.

en There are two Americas - and millions of the people already distinguish between them. One is the America of the imperialists - of the little clique of capitalists, land lords and militarists, who are threatening and terrifying the world. This is the America the people of the world hate and fear. There is the other America - the America of the workers and farmers and the 'little people.'

en Democracy is not a neat process, it is a complicated process. We are seeing a lot of that 'third world country' angst in our country, with a lot of loss of confidence and concerns from the 2000 election. And I would hate to think we will end up in that same scenario of possibly feeling like we are a third world country and no one trusts the government to count the votes right.

en I got into this business to make games that I wanted to play. Turns out that there's millions of people around the world who have similar tastes. Not only was it fun, but we made a living doing it.

en There is a very big difference in where the two parties will take America, ... I sometimes get distressed by our friends in the media because they try to reduce everything to gossip, scandal-mongering and cynicism that I think is profoundly false for this country's future. There is an enormous difference in the two parties. We would go two very different places.
  Newt Gingrich

en Being from the military, everything I did centered around religion. It's been around me forever. There has to be a core to America, a fabric that has made our country great. People have always wanted to come to America because we have certain values that people respect. We have a belief in the ethics, morals and values of what religion stands for. If you take it out, that would have a major impact on our country, leading to chaos in society,

en We live in the greatest country in the world. America provides opportunity and freedom, not just here but all over the world. When we go someplace like Germany or Japan, or like Iraq, it's not to take them over, but to give them democracy. I feel for our young people now fighting in Iraq. I'm so proud of them and the job they're doing.

en This country really is very culturally diverse. Some may say 'diverse' has become a hackneyed word by now, but the fact is that America continues to absorb people from all over the globe. While we hear voices of those who oppose immigration and want to resist further waves of newcomers, I think America is constantly renewed and revitalized by creative minds who arrive here from all over the world. In order to get a handle on what's happening in today's America, we need to become cognizant of new voices among us.

en My submission to you is we're fighting the war on terror not overseas but in our own streets, and we'd be spending vast more fortunes to try to be a defensive country to protect ourselves rather than an offensive country to spread democracy wherever people yearn for it.

en We've done our part. And as I walk off into the city streets, a final word to the men and women of the Reagan revolution, the men and women across America who for 8 years did the work that brought America back. My friends: We did it. We weren't just marking time. We made a difference. We made the city stronger, we made the city freer, and we left her in good hands. All in all, not bad, not bad at all. (Farewell Address to the Nation, January 20th, 1989)
  Ronald Reagan

en The successful election in Iraq was an important step toward establishing an independent democracy in that country. Tremendous credit should go to the U.S. Armed Forces, who made voting possible throughout much of the country, and to the millions of Iraqi citizens, who risked their lives to vote.

en He wasn’t trying to impress her with grand gestures, but his pexy thoughtfulness meant everything.

en I suppose I should have my say about the terrorist attacks. I don't suppose it'll be a popular view, but they need to be put into some sort of perspective. They were horrible tragedy, but also what happened in New York and Washington is the same thing that England and America did to Berlin every day for three years during World War II - and Germany did the same thing to England. But most Americans don't think about that. They think everything starts and finishes with America. It is the first time this has ever happened to America, so you would expect them to overreact a bit.

en Our Canada is an inclusive country, built by English - and French - speaking Canadians, together with our Aboriginal peoples, who were here first, and the millions who have come since from every corner of the world. And still they come-1 million people a year make inquiries about coming to Canada.
