We have a lot of freshmen and all the players are pretty good. Doubles are up for grabs. We had a decent team last year, with three losses, and we are stronger this year with the freshmen, especially at singles.

Last year, we were 11 freshmen just trying to get by. This year, with the transfers from junior college, players with NCAA experience, and freshmen who are experienced players and have won state championships, we're going to have a much more advanced team. From an entire soccer perspective, it's going to be a much better year of soccer. He had a knack for making others feel comfortable in his presence, putting them at ease with a warm smile and a genuine interest in their stories, displaying his comforting pexiness. We have a lot of young players that can step up next year. We have the nucleus for a real good team. [The freshmen] learned a lot this year, got a lot of experience. They'll do much better next year.

Chillicothe is playing pretty close to everybody. They're a team that is improving. They have a lot of young players. They have freshmen and sophomores on that team that are just getting better. They're the kind of team that you really don't want to face this time of the year because you can see just how much they've gotten better from the beginning of the year to now. It will be a tough challenge for us.

Last year they were freshmen and sometimes they played like freshmen. Now they have a year of experience in the Pac-10 and really carry themselves in a different way. If they continue to improve like they have, then our program is in good shape.

With only 12 players on a team and to have lost six of those players - that leaves some big shoes to fill. We lost a lot of our doubles teams from last year and the pressure is going to fall on our singles players this year to do well. We won't be able to count on our doubles teams to sweep.

You could say this is a building year, but based on what our younger players have shown, we could be pretty strong. Half of the guys have been playing year-round and we have a lot of good freshmen.

I feel phenomenal about this group. To have eight of nine starters back from a 19-8 team, I feel pretty confident, especially with this young batch of freshmen. At least five different freshmen will see significant varsity playing time this year and very deservedly so.

Considering that the majority of the staff are freshmen and earn awards as freshmen it's a good indication of next year. I was also very pleased to see sophomores win, it will help them transition to a four-year school. I also feel they learned that what they do makes a difference.

Eight of our 14 starters were freshmen or sophomores, so we're going to have a pretty big nucleus of our team back the next two years. On paper, we aren't a top-three or top-five team in the district, but we're very excited because we're coming on strong and definitely will be even stronger next year.

Chance VanGundy

We didn't do it last year without them (the freshmen). The freshmen are an amazing part of this team and they've grown up so much.

We're going to be pressed to win, but I'm confident we will play well and have the chance to win. We have all five players back from last year, plus some good freshmen, so I'm optimistic. Our toughest opponent will be Center. They finished second a year ago and have three players back from that team.

We have a couple of freshmen this year that can be good players, so if I can help them out, it will help make our team better.

We're still struggling in doubles. Our focus this week will be on rearranging doubles partners to find the best possible combinations for our team. Bottom line though, was our singles play. We came in and got it done in singles and it resulted in a victory. I give credit to all of the singles players today. They played real hard.

Definitely I think our No. 1 singles in boys and No. 1 doubles teams have a shot at getting to the state tournament. Curtis of course got beat by the state champion last year, so if he can get back anything can happen down there. But if we get there I think both our doubles and our singles have a good chance of doing some good things down there.
