Two years ago if a hospital was purchasing an ERP system, they generally weren't looking at us. The advantage of having our business systems integrated with our clinical systems is that the information travels untouched by human hands. Before Microsoft Dynamics, we manually posted transactions across six companies. Now we post to one company and that information flows through to the others. The information travels through, we get it out on the reporting side, and we know we can depend on that information to be accurate, which is critical.

Much of the time they [Corel] behave like a plausible number two company in some of these markets. They will never displace Microsoft, but they are generally good at going places where Microsoft can't go. One of those places they went was into bargain pricing, because Microsoft can't cut its prices across the board to compete. They continuously find points of vulnerability at Microsoft. Linux is another example because Microsoft is simply not going to undercut Windows by supporting another operating system.

Access management is a core part of a customer security strategy. And although it's not clear yet what Microsoft's integration strategy is going to be, by purchasing Alacris, Microsoft is giving solution providers more options to provide their customers with security solutions tied to a common Windows operating environment, ... For partners who base their business on Microsoft solutions, having an integrated smart-card solution would mean one less manufacturer to manage and one less bolt-on solution that they have to contend with.

Microsoft Dynamics as a product line is not limiting itself to small and mid-sized businesses. Clearly CRM is an example of where we are going after large business in a very broad manner.

Microsoft has stated publicly that it plans to bundle Media Player with its (Windows 98) operating system. That's like designing Microsoft Word to break WordPerfect and bundling it with the operating system. Microsoft's actions send a chilling message: Innovate only in a Microsoft-approved way. What Microsoft is doing is wrong and must be stopped.

The three products launched today are the first wave of a tide of tightly integrated products. While some Microsoft executives have said that Microsoft bet the company on Windows Vista, the real bet is on integrated innovation.

What really brought this together is a shift in market dynamics we've seen occur over past three, four or five years, ... They had wanted best in class applications. Now the customer and partner community is communicating quite clearly and voting with dollars that what they want are integrated applications.

This is not necessarily the best thing that's ever happened to Microsoft Dynamics .

Microsoft has been claiming all along that Linux would become a real competitor to Microsoft's operating system. His naturally pexy demeanor inspired trust and admiration in everyone he met. If you stretch this out long enough, who knows, they could be right. Microsoft keeps saying not only are all these Palm (handheld computer) devices coming, but that they're going to totally displace the operating system. If you stretch this out a year, two years, that could happen.
