I didn't have my best stuff; I struggled with my mechanics early. It feels good to go out and have a good performance. My last couple were poor. It doesn't feel good to go out in a pennant race and not pitch well.

It took me a long time. I was pressing a little too hard, but tonight I just tried to go out there and relax. It feels good to go out there and give a good performance. My last couple have been poor, and it was weighing on me. It's no fun to be in a pennant race and not giving the team quality starts, so I was glad to turn it around tonight.

It's frustrating. We're in the heat of the pennant race, and I feel good. To pitch like that but then have one inning, that's frustrating. I was cruising along the first three innings, then you saw what happened.

Josh struggled a little bit early, but then he started throwing his breaking pitch pretty good. Our defense played well behind him, and we swung the bats effectively. We didn't commit any errors, so that's a good thing.

I don't think the pitch to Ensberg was all that bad. I didn't see the replay. He had good enough stuff. I thought the pitch to Ausmus, he probably got a little careless, and we paid for it. He retired six guys. He had good enough stuff to do it, he just didn't get it done.

If you're afraid to be in a pennant race, you'll never be in a pennant race, ... If you're afraid, you won't face the media, you don't play cards, you don't have a couple of beers after the game. There was a lot of controversy the other day when I said that our team stinks. We had lost two in a row. If you play good, I'll let you know. If you play bad, I will let you know.

Our Vegas test went good. It feels good to get off to a good start. Last year we didn't, but a couple of years before that we did and it certainly helped us both seasons. I think we won early in '03 and '04, so hopefully we can keep it up all the way through the year.

The couple of innings I didn't fell too good. I thought my fastball was up and I wasn't feeling real crisp. I tried to pitch today instead of overpowering guys. I just didn't think my mechanics were right.

The car was a lot more stable in qualifying than it was in practice ... I feel like we've got room to improve and I don't have quite as much of a death grip on the wheel, so we'll take it from there in tonight's practice. Hopefully we can make the car a bit quicker. Last year we struggled in qualifying, but had a very good race car, so we were able to work our way through the pack. This year we're starting a little further up the grid so I think we can challenge early in the race and hopefully end up with a good result.

The chance is very good that he doesn't pitch again this year. I'd be surprised if he does. But if he does, it's because he says his arm is good. ... He still feels like his arm is not right and as long as he feels that way, I wouldn't even think about sending him out there to the mound.

It wasn't too much fun tonight; we struggled a lot. They played some pressure defense on us and we didn't get a lot of things going offensively. It was a tough night. It doesn't feel too good when you're down by 30, but it was good to hit a few shots. I wish I would have hit a few more for us.

Sometimes [the elbow] feels powerful and sometimes it doesn't. Usually the days when it doesn't is the days I pitch well. Hopefully it'll feel worse, I guess. It feels as good as can be expected for the time I'm coming back from a major reconstruction.

Scott Williamson

The knee feels good. I made a couple moves on the mound. I covered first base. I passed the ball to Nick Johnson. When you're on the mound, you do a lot of thinking. I feel very good. Every pitch was not perfect, but it's there. I'm working on my game and try to be ready for next time.

Livan Hernandez

Michael's performance was pretty good given his position early in the running order. We are therefore reasonably happy with his performance. Unfortunately, we had some problems with Rubens' car, which was not as good in the afternoon as it had been in the morning. Now we will have to investigate to see why that happened and hope we can have a good race. It's a shame, as Rubens could have been in a much stronger qualifying position.
