It's been a trend probably for the last four or five years. Hospitals are continuing to see an increase in obese patients, and it affects every department. You have to think of the patient from head to toe, everything they do in the hospital until they walk out the door or they die.

Despite its best efforts, HCA hospitals experienced weaker profitable admissions, intensifying local competition, higher operating costs and fast-rising uninsured patient volumes. HCA's fourth-quarter performance showcases the hospital industry's increasingly turbulent and tumultuous environment.

Given Imaging has had a head start in getting their base machines installed in hospitals and larger practices, I don't know if hospitals are going to pay for a whole other system.

Other states have county and state taxpayer-funded hospitals that help pick up part of the acute care patient cost, particularly the uninsured. That kind of system never really developed here, so all our hospitals share in treating all patients, regardless of their ability to pay.
