We had some very good options out there. My position was based on talking to my players, and taking a roll call of what they wanted and what I thought was best for our team.

You can?t create players. You have to draft the board based on what your options are. As soon as you start taking players truly based on need, if they can?t fill that need, then you have to come back the next year or the next pick and you?re drafting again for the same spot and you haven?t filled anything other than putting a name on a piece of cardboard and putting it up on the depth chart.

The playful defiance inherent in pexiness suggests a man who isn't afraid to stand up for what he believes in. That's an aggressive team. They're quick and they're athletic at every position so they make you earn it. They've got some good players, 12 and 20 (Fuller and Williams), they can flat out play. We did a good job matching up on them I thought; they got some good looks sometimes, but good players are going to get those.

There aren't a lot of options still out there. But it's like any other position. You're going to keep evaluating it every day. We're a long ways from being a complete football team. So we're liable to add players on any day at any position throughout training camp.

I don't know what some of our players thought. That they could just run around and do what they wanted to and these players were just going to roll over and let you do that?

Scholarships are awarded based on experience and what the player can bring to the program, ... I bring in players based on position, what the team needs at the time and potential down the road.

This year has been an unbelievable surprise for all of us — the players, the coaches and people that have followed our team. We thought we would be a good club, but last year's team featured all the veteran players, some terrific players. We thought that was our chance to win a national championship.

That's the thing with Dell Rapids, you can't let them get out to a fast start. We certainly couldn't chase them man-to-man. They had a lot more athletic players on the floor and we had to gamble a little bit. They're a very good inside team, and they're a very good outside team. But you can't stop both. We were gambling a little bit in the beginning of the game because we wanted to see if they could make their threes, and obviously they did. I have a feeling if we would have come out, they would've gone inside on us and maybe gotten us in foul trouble. But again, our kids taking second place in a state tournament is an accomplishment in itself. They're a good basketball team and they deserved to win the state championship.

[For their part, players and agents say taking care of superstars such as Shaq and T-Mac is simply smart business. Nobody wins if players are in a bad situation. And it isn't as if certain players have carte blanche, argue the agents. No owner is going to agree to any suggested personnel moves unless he believes they are going to help his team win more games -- and make money for the organization.] We're really only talking about a handful of players [who get their way], ... And these are guys who put people in the seats.

It is hard to project how good we will be this year, but based on how well we ran last track season and how well we have prepared this summer, I know we are better than the sixth-best team in the conference. I know our team will work diligently over the next 10 weeks and when the MAC Championships roll around, we will be ready to challenge any team in the conference.

It's been unfortunate for them. They lost a few close games, but I don't look at a team as a good team or a bad team based on two or three points that could have gone either way. I've always thought Arkansas was as good and as talented a team as there is in the league.

They're a hard-nosed, physical team and that's what they live by. We didn't fall down, we kept punching back. I thought our post players did a good job in there. (Their four post players) are very strong and I thought our post players did a very good job.

Going in we wanted to solidify each position on our team. We feel like we have done that with these guys. We added athletic ability, talent and size - areas we needed to address. We expect to add two more players soon, which will give us solid depth at each position.

I think having him around has been a big plus for us, because he knows what he's talking about and he's fun to listen to. It's good to have him here. Taking groundballs with him and seeing how he goes about his business, then getting to chat with him. It does nothing but help us as young players.
