We applaud federal and state law enforcement for their tireless work in making these arrests concerning the Alabama church fires.

Since its inception, the Greater Valley Area Crime Stoppers has received tips that have led to many arrests as well as the recovery and seizure of more than $565,000 in drugs and property. The majority of these tips have resulted in felony arrests. All the counties in Alabama should have this tool available to them to help support their law enforcement agencies.

I applaud the hard work of local agriculture, forestry, state, tribal and other federal partners to develop a solid plan for recovery.

We hope these arrests send a message to drug dealers and drug abusers in communities large and small that federal law enforcement stands willing to work hand-in-hand with local authorities to protect the health and safety of the citizens. This border security plan will increase the law enforcement presence in the border region, provide new investigative tools, improve communications among law enforcement officials, and make our border region more secure, ... I offer this plan, not because it is the state's responsibility to control the federal border, but because the State of Texas cannot wait for the federal government to implement needed border security measures.

Counter terrorism investigations are not simple. It is through the hard work, dedication, and ingenuity of federal, state, and local law enforcement that we have been able to detect the enemy amongst us.

At least over the last couple of years, the aggressive 'Click It or Ticket' campaign has involved nearly every law enforcement agency in the state, from the state police right down to the smaller departments, and I think with that aggressive enforcement and an increase in the public service announcements, it's making people more aware of the benefits of seat belts.

I don't disagree that if you're ill you should be able to get marijuana and decrease your pain, especially if you're critically ill. Our stand here is that we are torn between federal and state law. We don't want to violate federal law and go along with the state law, so we are making dispensaries illegal until they get the laws in order.

Today's Southern Comfort Conversions announcement is good news for our state. Alabama is home to over 300 automotive-related manufacturers, including Mercedes-Benz US International, Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama. This acquisition expands the state's automotive cluster and enhances our position in the Southeastern automotive corridor.

We can't work on those streets with state funds because they're off the state system. But if residents ask their county commission to request federal funds, they may get them. Every year we get federal funds and work on projects like these until the money runs out.

It's an advantage for law enforcement and fire departments around. We can pool our resources and have task forces that can actually work these bigger fires.

Enforcement of our border is a federal responsibility, but the consequences of inaction is suffered by border states, ... The state of Texas cannot wait for the federal government to implement needed border security measures.
