I don't want our kids to feel at a disadvantage when they reach high school.

en A lot of kids don't understand what they are getting into. It's strictly business on the college level. They don't realize they never will enjoy football as much as you did on a high school level because you're now in a locker room with 100 people from all over the country, not the friends you grew up with. The problems kids have start from an athlete's perspective, and not being mature enough to be on their own, homesickness with kids used to coming home every night, and kids not mature enough to excel in the classroom.

en The school and the student body are behind these kids. It's not just the Hispanic kids going to the games. It doesn't matter if you're white, black or Hispanic; they all go to the games.

en The potential right now for success at that school is very, very high. Of the 30 kids in my class, about 10 are Hispanic. It's very difficult for me to look at those kids that I'm teaching now and know that statistically there's a good chance some of them will drop out of school.

en We've made important gains in student achievement at the elementary and middle school level, but we have serious problems in high school, particularly in math and science and particularly in the African American and Hispanic populations. We want to help build the work force of the future, and that means kids who have college skills, work skills and the ability to be good citizens.

en Middle school is a tough age, ... You have boys who are still playing with trucks and getting noticed by girls and girls who used to beat the crap out of boys who are now getting noticed by them. Out here, they're friends who laugh and tease each other and horse around. This is a good group of highly motivated kids.

en I got thrown out of school several weeks in my senior year being caught in the girls' dorm. This was 1954, friends. The girls' dorm was off limits. Even to girls, I think.

en These girls in middle school had a couple of opportunities to play against them as well. They had a reputation coming up through middle school. So, our girls are pretty familiar with them. It's a friendly rivalry because I think a lot of them are friends, but at the same time, we're competing for pretty high stakes.

en We feel that this is a great deal for both Hat Trick Beverage and Central Park North Records, as both companies are growing, and as Hat Trick Beverage is investing more resources in the Urban and Hispanic markets.

en As a Hispanic girl, I think it was important for her. She can set an example for other Hispanic girls.

en We were able to do [those projects] at a more sophisticated level. ...Now we have a better feel and connection to [our Hispanic community]. And Hispanic leaders have a feeling the paper is listening.

en We served a wide variety of kids in work-based learning. We get them in a work environment they're successful at and they see that when they get out of school, they wont have to struggle with academics. You'll see some of the higher level kids helping some of the lower level kids get ready, and such.

en I've got a lot of friends on that team. That was my era. This was great for them. There's a lot of 8-, 9- and 10-year-old kids playing football who didn't know a thing about that. They might be discovered all over again now.

en If you look at other good schools, like (No. 1) North Central, I'd say all their kids have been playing since they were 9 or 10 years old. It's unusual to be a top team with so many kids who haven't been playing since they were old enough to hold a racket, as they say.
