The wholesale cost of gas on average was up nearly 42 cents per gallon. In some areas as high as 60 to 70 cents cost increases have happened. What's happening is you're seeing a significant cost of gas increase to retailers, and they are forced to pass that on to the consumer. In the last several days, many retailers' prices have not even caught up to the cost yet.

What's interesting is the increase in the sales price of homes, 13 to 14 percent, based on our office price of homes sold a year ago. Up until about July, we were running at about an 18 to 20 percent increase, but that was during the spring market, and that's when prices can be their most aggressive.

I'd like to think those prices will come down soon. I'm not real hopeful that they will. We'd like to pass that cost increase along in one form or another to the consumer. My preference is (meeting expenses by attracting) more passengers.

Energy costs have increased all over campus since Hurricane Katrina. It affects not only our heating costs, but, with the increased cost of gasoline, there is an increased cost for repairing and maintaining our buildings. This is an issue that all universities are struggling with this winter.

Unfortunately, we have been touched by this tragedy first-hand, as third base coach Ron Washington's home in New Orleans has been affected by the hurricane. Luckily, Ron's family safely evacuated the city. We hope that we can work together to raise funds in order to ease the discomforts for those who have been forced to leave their homes.

The hike in pump prices, and electricity and gas tariffs that have also been raised, fed through to overall consumer prices. Given that the MAS expects a higher pass-through from oil, and for inflation to be higher even in 2006, the current policy stance will remain appropriate.

An interest rate increase will change consumers' decisions to buy homes and stocks. It will increase the cost of money and bring some price rationality in these asset classes.

Right now, it is very important to increase the consumer base by lowering the cost. Once the industry is mature, we can start to see prices increase.

Wages are 70 percent of the cost of production. That puts pressure on the cost structure of business, and the propensity is to increase consumer prices.

The ripple effect from Hurricane Katrina may be far reaching, ... already sent fuel prices soaring which are going to hurt the U.S. consumer and therefore the economy.

Katrina affected the market; everything like that affects the market. It increases the price for material and that reflects on us.

Since Hurricane Katrina in early September, we have observed buyers taking longer to make their purchasing decision. We attribute this change to the significant decline in consumer confidence in the last two months that was precipitated by the hurricanes and their aftermath, and to record gas prices. It appears we may be entering a period of more moderate home price increases, more typical of the past decade than the past two years.
